Since selling my FJR I've been looking to replace it with a Wee. I have been receiving good input from others on this forum and other forums. I have looked on forums, cycle trader and craigslist to try to get an idea of values. This is the first 2017 I've considered as I have been trying to keep it under $6K. I would like input on this one. It is a 2017 XT. As for farkles, it only has the following: factory side cases, factory center stand, Weld 86 skid plate, AME heated grips and factory service manual. It has factory warranty only until June 4 of this year. It is owned by a 64 year old retired gentleman. It is in mint condition with 1,460 miles. Always stored covered and in a heated garage. He started at $8,000 and said he would accept $7500. Just be my conscience. Note, as I said, I've been targeting to keep it at or under $6k for a used one. I can do $7500. I didn't expect to run into one this new and this unused. Your thoughts? Photos below.

If the newer 650's are as good as the old ones it's great ride. I've got close to 100K miles on my 04 and it has been faultless. Other than tires of which I've worn out several sets.

The price seems steep, especially given the season. During the peak summer selling season last year (and when my bike was half a model year newer), I paid $5,400 for my pristine 2017 w/ under 2K miles. A base model with no luggage (a few farkles), but still. +$2K for wire wheels and impractical OEM cases seems high to me.

This was my exact red flag. I've never used these specific cases and "impractical" was my first thought. I can get a full set of caribou, with brackets and top case, for under $1500. Spokes? Toss of a coin really; but, I would certainly not pay extra for them.

Have you called around to local dealers to see if they have any in stock? I paid less than 7500 for a brand new one. It didn't have bags but I wasn't too keen on the OEM bags anyway.

It's still winter - dealers should be making good deals now to unload inventory before spring gets here.

Yep. Local dealer:
New DL650 (2019) $8800
New DL650 (2016) $7400 (reduced to $7400)
Used DL1000 (2009, naked, with 24K MIles) $6200

Those prior year price slashes you hear about don't really occur here as the market is small and I've had dealers tell me, and rightfully so I suspect, they don't need to because it will eventually sell. I don't think our Montana dealers have enough volume to justify a price break and carrying cost of having 10 bikes delivered and selling them or carrying them over. I believe it is more of: have one in stock and buy as may be needed. It's just a different market in Montana.

Check out Motostorm.it. You can get a pair of Trekker Dolomiti cases with mounts for $630 (with a €20 coupon code they'll give you for posting any review). This includes US shipping.

Yes, if you were closer to the East Coast the price would seem high, mainly because there seems to be an infinite supply of significantly reduced brand new white 2017’s here (not the XT model though). I have one of them and got the OEM side cases for free with it. Which I really like by the way, I find them to be roomy and sturdy and I like the narrow profile which you won’t get with aftermarket cases. Anyway, I like the black XT you are looking at and if the owner works with you I would certainly take it over a 2016.

I don't see a Weld 86 skid plate on there, just the factory plastic shroud.

Where are you?....West coast brings higher prices than anywhere else I have noticed.

The skid plate is not mounted yet.
I'm in Billings, MT. You are sort of right, West coast has lower prices than we do. Supply and demand.

Prices really do vary with location. My only observations are that the OEM cases (which I personally like) are not cheap, and the spoked wheels on the XT are also part of a more expensive bike than the regular DL. Those things are worth something, or worth nothing to different persons. No idea about the value of the skid pan.

Bear in mind also that he will have paid for the first service, or should have done so. You'll save a few beans with that out of the way as well as tax or delivery fees on a new bike- depending on where you are.

The new 2016 is a different bike than the 2017, in a few ways, that you may or may not care about. I'm just thinking that the new 2016 isn't an equal alternative.

I agree. I just provided that information for the person who inquired about contacting dealers and to show "the market" here in Montana.

The factory bags & brackets were an $840 retail option and were a freebee on the leftover 2017s in 2018, in the greater Mpls-StP market at least. ~$200 for the centerstand retail. I bought mine new, not the XT model and I have been very happy with it. There is better luggage out there certainly, and the spoke wheels will ultimately take more abuse than the alloys, but for day trips and errand running, the stock bags are great, look decent IMO and the bike still looks good with them off; no frames left on the bike. The seller seems a little attached to it still, maybe he/she paid too much for it new. I would be a buyer at $7000, but I'm not you. Consider how long you intend to keep your next bike and how much riding you intend to do; $7500 might be justifiable. Personally, I would consider only 2016 and newer DL's, as that's when more power and the current styling came in.

2017 Wee

The $7,500 + $225 for center stand is what I paid for my 2017 (Jan 2018) 650XT last year from the dealer, plus shipping, tax .... I wouldn't pay anything for the OEM boxes, because they are extremely impractical. Practical boxes are going to be an additional $1,200. I added heated grips and skid for around $350. So if he wants $7,500, he is just trying to recoup the base price of a non-farkle bike. The sellers all in cost is 650 XT Base $7,500 + Handle/tax/dealer $700 + Skid $225 + Boxes $ 1,200 + Grips $ 140 = You do the math. From photo It looks like he does a lot of work on motorcycles - Is he the original owner? Has it been wrecked?

He is the original owner. Never wrecked. Never even tipped over. The worse that has been to it, according to him, is it has been waxed about 5 times. He's quite the stickler.

Yes, of course. I wasn't suggesting that you didn't realize that. And I agree that markets really do differ. Here, over the border, the factory cases are about $1,300.00 CDN, and were never a freebie- at least, not that I've seen on this coast. Other cases are similarly more expensive in our dollars. But no matter, it may not be a bad deal, really, as the spoked wheels alone have value. You could sell them to many other members, I suspect, and be quite happy with the cash back.

What is the warranty remaining on that bike? Mine came with 5 years, but that may vary from year to year and place to place as well.

I paid $4000 for my 07 Wee here in Missoula in 2015. The prices are a bit more here in Montana. You may consider also looking over on this side of the state with Craig's List. Haven't looked in quite a while, but used to be a few for sale. Personally, if the bike speaks to you, looks as good as it does in person as in the photos, and the price doesn't hurt you, buy it. :wink2:

My 2 cents would be to ask the owner to put in half the amount of what you would pay the state taxes on getting it transferred if that would help your decision. I recently traded in a 2016 650 for a 2019XT I was hesitant because I thought the 2016 was "IT" but I bought a 2018 Vee last year and love it and the new look and features started tugging at me and an opportunity came up to make the trade and I'm glad I did it.
