Looking at buying an '08 650DL. I'm 6'4, 230llbs. Anyone of similar size that can comment on how comfortable the 650DL is?

Many larger than you find either Strom one of the most comfy bikes they have ever road. Only thing you may want to trade seats with a 1K owner as it is 1" higher. A gel seat would be 2" taller than the 650 seat.

I'm your size.

My 1K is fine for me. I did find it necessary to add some foam to the seat, but that was more for my posterior than anything else. The peg reach is about right and the bars are in a pretty good position too, though I have contemplated getting some risers.

With the 650 you may find it necessary to switch to a 1K seat. The dealer should be more than happy to do this and if he/she isn't, then it shouldn't be too hard to find someone wanting to switch.

I'm 6'4" ~280lbs .I have bar risers,(up and back) and a 1000 seat.
I am very comfy. Most new bikes are built for smaller people....
If I had to pick one or the other I'd keep the seat.:)

I am 6'4" and 220 and I traded out to the 1K seat and I have had no trouble and find riding for 2 or 3 hrs straight is no problem. Am looking for a way to mount some highway pegs tho.

6'-3", 260 lbs here with a 34" inseam. Wee is fine for me but I'll offer a couple of points, that, if you're migrating from a bike with different peg placement you might consider:

If you suffer from knee problems - you may find things a bit cramped in one position for too long. I have a small ligament problem on right knee and after about an hour found a little cramping due to riding with the my heel stopped right aginst the rear of the peg. Changed a bit, and now ride with my heel maybe 1" behind the right peg - made all the difference in comfort. I think this may be due to the difference in peg location compared to what I was used to. Makes the brake much easier to use with my size 13s as well and still provides solid footing on the pegs. Other ergonomics I found excellent.

I had a chance a couple of years ago to ride a Vee with lowered pegs - my own experience was I wouldn't do it myself - the lowering units helped with legroom but even with rear brake adjusted to compensate, wasn't a comfortabe reach.

Secondly, I opted not to go to a larger seat - 1" higher is significant but there's no more padding - I raised my seat 3/4" by inserting temperfoam (the memory stuff) under (not over) the stock seat foam and shaped a little more tapered at the front (reaised only the driver portion, not the passenger). This $5 option works well for me and stretches my comfort time from 1 hour to about 2.5-3 hours on the bike if I need to.

My two cents.

Safe rides

I'm EXACTLY the same size as you, and this bike fits me better than anything else I've ever been on. I have a 1000 seat on my .650L.

I'm the same size and wouldn't go with the 1k unless you were doing lots of interstate riding. My wee hauls my ass around just fine, but it would be nice to have a little more grunt over 80mph.
