I have a Ventura rack and a new bag (Euro-Rally) which sits on the pillion seat but would like a bit more carrying capacity. Has anyone fitted Give pannier frames in combination with a Ventura Rack ... do they fit together ... it appears they will be doubling up on the same mounting points. Would there be any issues doing that?

I'm thinking of some sort of soft pannier option then ...

It's a bit Combination Chow Mein but what the heck? ... I think Ventura have soft panniers available and if they could be fixed to the Give frames it might not look so mongrel?

My K3 DL1000 has both a ventura rack & pannier racks, but I don't know what brand. It had both racks installed when I bought is second-hand. I've removed the top part of the Ventura rack so I can fit a top box, but the 2 side bits (the ones that are bolted to the bike) are still on the bike. Let me know if you want any pics.

Thanks Geoff ... no photos needed ... it appears there is the clearances for both racks from what your saying ... just don't want to throw away my ventura rack etc as it is great for commuting use

I had my seat off today, and took a few photos of my rack setup. The ventura rack (not 100% sure if it's genuine Ventura as it was on the bike when I bought it) is in 3 pieces - rge rack itself, then 2 sections - 1 of each mounts on each side of the bike. Each of the 2 permanantly mounted side bits has 2 mounting bolts - the front one has a vertical bolt under the centre of the seat, and the rear has a horizontal bolt wher the muffler mount is. The pannier racks (once again not 100% sure of brand but I always thought they are Givi) has a mounting point under the factory rear carry rack, on the passenger footpegs, and behind the tail-light. The 2 sets of racks (ventura & pannier) don't actually touch each other anywhere, but they do come close. The photos make this a bit clearer:

Beauty Geoff ... Thanks for taking the time to do that ... much appreciated. It seems there should not be too much to worry about although it seems your ventura rack (DL1000 version?) may be slightly different at the rear mounting points. I think I will go and spend some money on the Givi racks ...

Can anyone tell me if the Give racks (PL532) are symmetrical on Wee ... same width either side ... sorry I was born with one ear bigger than the other and been trying to make up for it ever since ... I like things to look balanced ...

ressurecting old thread?

but the v-strom i'm looking at getting has the givi side racks but no top plate. now I already have pack racks and bags, but would like to fit the so-called l racks to the v-strom... is this possible alongside the already fitted givi side rack system?

My 2012 650 came with a Ventura rack. I then bought the Givi pannier racks for a pair of Givi E41's I bought and found that they use the same mounting points.

To line up the Givi racks with there footpeg holes and the rear bar must go below the muffler they have to be below the Ventura rack. Now the way the mounting points are welded on the Ventura tubing they do not fit above the Givi mounting points but have to go below which raises the Givi racks too high and apart from the shared mounting points no other mounting points line up.

So to fit the Ventura rack I will need longer bolts and some spacers between the mounting points of them both which will raise the rear rack of the V-Strom which I may as well do away with as it will not be used. Not sure how much space I have under the seat where the mounting points are but it's worth a try.

Gave up, the angles are all wrong on the 2012 DL650 to make both work ie the ventura rack and the Givi racks.

If I put the Ventura below then the cross brace won't fit from the Givi's because it hits the exhaust. The legs that go down to the passenger pegs are too high but I could have fabricated a link to the mounting points.

If the Ventura is on top then a spacer at the front would be OK but the tubing running to the back runs into the Givi frame and the rear indicator stalks would need to be removed.

For the sake of using a Ventura bag I decided that fabricating new Ventura racks was not worth it. and will use a duffle strapped to the seat and rear rack or another hardcase for the rear rack.
