Cold weather ‘trigger finger’ gauntlet?

2437 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Motopundit
Anyone ride with index finger under the brake lever? Can’t do this with the clutch, because it pulls all the way to the handle.

Been experimenting with different gloves and trying these US Army cold weather ’trigger finger’ gauntlet gloves. Weather wise they’re good. Though I had to reshape to remove some extra material.

If you are ok with minimal protection, there are some good options that are designed for winter bicycling. Hippo hands with heated grips and MC gloves seem to offer the best combination of safety and warmth.

Take a look at gloves mean for snowboarding - trigger gloves are pretty common. Warm, but much less bulky. As a downhill ski racer that is one snowboarding piece of equipment that I own. For MC riding I just use ski racing gloves - they are good at -20F for racing and down to maybe 20F on a motorcycle with no grip warmers or hand guards.
Snow gloves won't fare well on asphalt me thinks.

Depends on the gloves. Plenty of "MC" gloves are useless in a slide too. My downhill ski racing gloves are more protective than any MC gloves I own. That being said - I don't care. Don't crash, if you do turtle onto your backplate ;)
Have a set of the army trigger finger ones, they're pretty decent but it seems that air ends up flowing through the tops. Snowboarding trigger finger gloves are really nice but they typically are pretty pricey.
Personally I've found snowmobile gloves are by far the best, most are waterproof and some offer armor padding/protection.

so no problem getting your finger caught under the lever?

the shell is cotton on the back of the glove, so I’m going to wax It for water-proofing.

mad far as protective property. Well, the palm is leather.More than half good
Hippo hands are buky and ugly but my are they warm and cozy. With heated grip you can wear summer gloves with air temps in the low 40's. Below that winter gloves are good in to the 20's. There is also the added benefit of little rian protection if you get caught in a shower.

I just adjust the brake out to it's farthest setting and don't have an issue. The only problem I've had is that if you got a heavy liner underneath and try to one finger grab the clutch the mitt part can block it from fully engaging.
Waxing them is not a bad idea at all.

that’s why I’m trying to figure out if I can get myself to hold the bar with index finger and grab three fingers of brake and, because the clutch goes all the way, full four of clutch.
I tend to ride with my index and middle fingers always on the levers. In cold weather, this means those fingers can get cold from the constant contact with the metal levers, so I installed some neoprene lever cozies.
