Problems with clutch slipage, 65K new clutch basket 5 K ago. Checked fiber disk,all with in specs. Does not do it all the time,most of the time you can;t make it slip. Any ideals?

Since you replaced the basket I will assume it is a Dl 1000. I would pull the clutch slave cylinder and the front sprocket cover a d make everything is clean. I want to say I have read a post or two where the gunk was causing some binding under there. I would also inspect and replace the fluid, and inspect all the seals for leakage. That way you will flush any air in the lines if there is some.

Are you using Car Oil

with all those real good Viscosity additives and slippery stuff in it?

Motorcycle oils are made for wet clutches..... Car oil is not.
