Cleaning windscreen

What is the best way to clean a new windscreen. I have a new one arriving soon and I don't want to mess it up. I thought I was being careful using a window cleaner and paper towel to clean my stock shield but it still ended with all these tiny scratches.

Ideas would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Get the screen wet and keep it wet. I soak several paper towels in water and drape them over my screen for about 10 minutes. That loosens up all of the bug remains so they are easily wiped off with a dish towel that is destined for the wash. (Don't return the dish towel to the kitchen!)

Follow the directions from the manufacturer. Don't use Windex or other glass cleaner, the screen isn't glass. Ivory dish soap is milder and better on your hands. Let the bugs soak, don't be in a hurry.

After trying every method that DOES scratch a windscreen, here's what I do that doesn't:

1. Get hose, spray screen. While water is cascading over it, lightly rub your hand over the screen to knock off debris/bugs. Keep doing this for a minute or two, you'll have 95% of the window spotless without scratches. Stubborn stuff you can use a wet microfiber towel to get off, then when you're done use Lemon Pledge on the windscreen....wipe with a microfiber towel till it's buffed clean. It's great stuff on plexi, keeps things from sticking.

Super easy.

I hold my neighbors pug up to the screen and she licks the bug off. She has a tongue like pink velvet-no scratches.

I use Plexus. Spray it on. Have a beer or two. Wipe it and the bugs off with a micro-fiber towel, turning/foldig the towel so as to not rub the bugs into the screen. The lightly spray again and polish with another micro-fiber towel.

According to the printed instructions they say NO. Honda PRO spray cleaner & polish works fine as does S100 special surfaces cleaner. Lemon pledge works but attracts fine dust the original formula pledge works great. Microfibre towels work great also for wiping off what ever you use. If you have a scratched shield micro-mesh makes a kit for refinishing and polishing.:mod2_tooth:

Indeed! Real Dual Sport riders appreciate its multi functionality.

What an obscure pop reference.

You sir, also have an interesting sense of humor. Knowing what those are (Billy Mumy/Twilight Zone) makes me feel very American.

Oh yea, the topic - I have revived scratchy windscreens by clamping soft cloth into my orbital sander and using plastic polish. Won't get out deep scratches, but smooths a lot of the light ones.

I'd never use rainx. But what does work great is Pledge furniture polish. It will clean your glass crystal clear and makes cleaning the bugs off easier.I learned about this on another motorcycle forum.I've been doing it for at least a year to my windcreen on my cruiser with great results. In fact you can clean your entire bike with it.But use only Pledge.Other furniture polishes have some ingredient (can't rember what) that is not good for your windscreen but Pledge does not have that ingredient.Try it you'll love it.

Get a couple of microfibre detailing cloths that you can reserve for windscreen cleaning. If the screen is really dirty, soak one of the cloths and lay it over the screen to loosen the crap. Then rinse with clear water, and wipe gently with the wet microfibrre cloth. Then get some Plexus, spray on, and let it seit for a bit. With the other cloth then buff out. Remember to use straight strokes, no circular motion. If you start with vertical strokes, stay with vertical strokes. Your shield will come out spotless and shiny.

I my self use Plexus and a old but soft towel. I might try the Pledge route when the Plexus runs out.
