Check Engine Light and F1 code

I bought my 2018 DL650 in June of 2019. At 300kms the check engine light came on and F1 started flashing. Took it to the dealer the next day but the light and code were gone. Dealer put it on his computer but found nothing? This happened again in 2019 and again the dealer found nothing?? Happened again in2021 while I was touring. Same check engine light and F1 code. It cleared itself an hour or two later??? Happened again today while on a ride. Stayed on for 300kms???? I now have 39,000kms and the bike runs perfectly????? Any similar experiences or diagnostics???????

The FI (fault indicator) lights up when the ECU detects an error or implausible signal with one of the sensors. The only way to find out which sensor is to put the bike in dealer mode. Search for "dealer mode" and "paperclip" on this site to get an idea on how to do that.

Some of the errors reset themselves after an ignition cycle. No way to retrieve the error other than with specialist equipment in that case, and even then it sometimes doesn't work. So if you have one of those intermittent issues, DO NOT switch off the bike, but put the bike in dealer mode while the engine is running and the FI light illuminated.

Problem is that you need the ignition key to lift the seat, to access the dealer mode plug. So either carry a spare key or put some sort of extension - possibly with a switch - on the dealer mode plug. There's also no harm in riding around with dealer mode engaged all the time, other than losing one of the ODO displays for the dealer mode output (Cxx code).

Uh, say what? Never heard of "dealer mode plug"!? Thanks, I'll see if I can find the procedure. I already pulled the seat, cleaned and re-torqued the battery connections and the "warning" is gone. The terminals weren't really very dirty at all but it seems to have "corrected" the "bad signal"?

Are you saying I will be able to read the code on the ODO when connected to the plug?
Thanks again
Yes, but only if you have bridged the dealer mode plug. When the FI lights a code to that fault is shown while the bike is in "dealer mode" but that code will disappear when you turn off the ignition.
Two wires of a plug under the seat are bridged to see the code. Even a paper clip will do the job and it can be left connected until the fault displays again.

The codes and how to read them are described here. Note that your later model DL650 plug is shown at the bottom of the page.

Such great info available, thanks
