Before I pulled the trigger on the Wolfman Explorer Lite tank bag and Ridgeline tail duffel that I had decided on after a month of research, my father ordered me a Chase Harper Manta X2 tank bag and a Deluxe Hide Away tail bag. He, an avid Harley rider, said that he used to use Chase Harper stuff way back when and that he couldn't imagine that there was a better company manufacturing motorcycle luggage. He said that their products were extremely well made and they carried an unconditional warranty. My dad told me that if I don't like it, I can send it back and buy other luggage. He's confident though that I'll like the Chase Harper gear. Best of all, the Chase Harper stuff will be free.

I did a search for Chase Harper here on Stromtrooper with little luck. Does anyone have any experience with Chase Harper stuff?

From what I can tell, the tank bag is very similar to the Joe Rocket Manta that many troopers rave about.

The tail bag also looks like it could be really awesome. It has a capacity of around 25L and is expandable to about 40L. What's really cool is that it folds down into a small side pocket making it easily stowable when not in use.

The luggage should arrive by Thursday so I'll give my impressions after I give them a test run. Any other troopers' opinions on the products or the brand is much appreciated.

OH, that Chase Harper.

I thought it was about running after our Prime Minister.

I'd like to Chase Harper with a bulldozer...

Eh?

I have the Chase Harper Compac Line 700 magnetic shown here:

Strong magnets at the 4 corners don't let it move around but make it easy to lift out of the
way at gas stops. Internal structure keeps the shape and very good zippers.
The removable, clear vinyl map cover is a tad small for a full 8.5X11 sheet. Handy zipped rear
pocket, carry handle and front safety strap.

That's a 10 year old Chase Harper Tail Pack on the pillion. Clearly, I agree 100% with your Dad.

Yeah, CH makes good kit. I've owned a few tank bags and saddlebags and think highly of them. They also used to make Moose branded off road packs which are (were) the cats ass.

I have a Chase Harper CR2 magnetic tank bag. I bought it for my Monster (fits the tank shape perfectly), but it will just barely fit on the new V-strom. It is very well-made, I've been impressed. They actually discontinued the all-black version of this bag and their customer service was very helpful in helping me locate one that hadn't been sold.

Follow Up Review

Well I've been using my Chase Harper Tank and Tail Bags for a little over 3 months now and I've been really impressed with them.

The Manta X2 tank bag, while extremely small, seems to fit the Strom tank perfectly. I can easily fit the necessities for a quick trip in the bag but have very little room to spare. I can fit my cell phone, sunglasses, hat, wallet, bungee net, bottle of water and a granola bar in the bag but have to pack it carefully. What I do like about the bag is that the main compartment is reinforced with what appears to be a PVC lining and the zippers are waterproof making the bag extremely water resistant. Even though I do really like the bag, I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a larger bag for longer trips.

I feel that the Deluxe Hideaway Tail Bag is a great addition to the Wee. Unexpanded, it can easily fit my helmet or all of my gear with a little room to spare for books, etc. In fact, I've never had to expand the bag which would almost double its capacity. It easily hooks on to either the passenger seat or the luggage rack although I think that the bungee hooks are little oversized. When the bag is not in use, it zips into the front accessory pouch and can fit in the tray under the seat. This bag is made from a lighter weight Cordura than the tank bag and is not waterproof. However, it is necessary for the fabric to be lighter so that it can fold up into the front pocket. I keep a garbage bag inside to help protect the contents from the rain. The trash bag liner doesn't impede the bag from folding into the pocket.

Overall, I'm very happy with the Chase Harper luggage. I'm so happy with the quality and cost of the brand that I'm looking at buying a larger Chase Harper tank bag for longer trips. I really like the SR3 Tank Bag but I'm not sure how well it will fit on the Strom.

I'm surprised that there aren't more Troopers using Chase Harper gear. They are great bags at great prices and have certainly earned my endorsement.

And I'll add the turbocharger, to make sure that you can catch him.:hurray:
you guys could save alot of money and fuel if you just used a skid steer instead.. they will go alot faster.

also, you'd have to run him over quite a few times to really be sure he is dead, so you get more "bang for your buck" that way.

besides, when the german kid ran from the hells angels sucessfully on a bulldozer, he set the bar pretty high! :green_lol:

I used a Chase Harper 700 Compac magnetic tank bag on one of my prior (street) motorcycles. It's very similar in appearance to the tank bag pictured in Austin44's post; mine doesn't have the reflective stripe on the sides.

I remember ordering the bag. The sales rep got a bit annoyed with me because I wanted some assurance that he was sending me the non-magnetic version (the web site order process was a bit dodgy, so I called Cust Svc). Guess what I received? The magnetic bag. After using it for a day or two, though, I was hooked and wouldn't trade it for the bag with straps.

I was very satisifed with the Compac's performance and design features. I'm thinking about selling it, however, because it doesn't fit the DL1000's curved tank very well and there does seem to be a continued, if modest demand for CH products.
