Changing a tire in the San Francisco Bay Area

2601 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  exintern
I’m curious if any Stromtroopers in the SF Bay Area change their own tires and would be willing to teach me how to do it. I’ve always been more of a DYIer and would love to learn. I’d like to eventually buy my own equipment. So if anyone does and has their own equipment for this I’d love to pay for an hour or two of your time to learn this valuable skill, whether in some brews and a meal or just cold hard cash. I live in Oakland, CA but am willing to travel the entirety of the Bay Area even beyondish, not that I need an excuse to go for an out of the way ride. 😁🙏👊

If I was going to do it all over again, I would bit the bullet on a automatic machine like this:

I have the Harbor Freight manual one and it works, but man it will suck the energy right out of you pronto.

On the cheap? I bought a Bike Master tire pliers to break the bead. And Motion Pro tire irons.

That's about it.

Have you mounted any of the 50/50 high mileage ones like the K60 or E07? Can be done with spoons, but holeey crap what a bitch.
No, and I don't plan on it either.
I have an automatic tire machine in Novato and will change your tire and give you some of my knowledge. The tire change will cost you a bottle of Basil Hayden's and the knowledge is free. I'll guarantee the tire change but you take your chances on the knowldge.
Another option is to go over to Barf, introduce yourself and ask if anyone will help you out.

Thanks for your offer and the introduction to that other forum, I just registered as a new user there and not sure how long before I can post anything, but will try there as well. I will go ahead and purchase the tires though and have them ready, then I’ll contact you to see when you’d have availability. I’m going to stick with the Bridgestone Battlax A41s, a simple upgrade from the current stock A40s. I’m sitting at around 10k miles at the moment but not feeling highly confident about them with all this rain we’re hopefully going to get. Much appreciated

You can also go to Motoguild on treasure Island and change your own tires with their help and instruction.

I have a No Mar tire changer, stop by and we'll give it a shot. Oh, I'm in Wisconsin, might want to bring long underwear. :)

Second on MotoGuild. Sign up for one of their classes. It’s a great resource and nearby.
