Hi everyone, this is my first post after lurking for a while and also after just purchasing a 2012 DL650. I love the bike (although this is the first time I've experienced buffeting). I do have a question about which I'm hoping you all can provide some advice.

I noticed that my chain is rubbing against the swingarm. Actually, it's rubbing against a protector that's on the top of the swingarm. Here is a fuzzy pic taken from the left side of the bike, looking from the rear sprocket towards the front sprocket. You can see that the chain is sitting on the protector.

I checked the chain tightness and it is within spec. Is this how it's supposed to work? I can't imagine that the chain should be rubbing on anything, ever. What am I missing?

First time poster here as well. That's the norm on every modern Suzuki I've ever encountered.

That is normal. When the output shaft on the trans is spinning, it is generally pulling the top half of the chain tighter causing less rub, but that protector is there for that reason also.

Hey thanks for the input. I won't worry about it then. Kinda feel silly for asking now but I figured I wouldn't find out otherwise.

Yep, that's OK. It's where I usually spray lube on the chain too.

Don't OVERTIGHTEN the chain to keep it off of that plastic. That's even worse than a loose chain in my opinion. Chain will be toast in no time, suspension won't work well and increase the load on the motor.

Yep!...and it will also ruin the oil seal on the countershaft as well as the O-ring behind it. Dont ask how I found out.

Hey! I'm new here. Just picked up a mint 2012 Wee two weeks ago. Was looking at the chain resting on the swingarm and was a little concerned, but after reading this thread, no longer!
