Went yesterday for a minor adventure through the Gunks and Catskills in New York, and found (in case anyone is looking to head towards Shokan or near the Rondout) that CR-42 is still closed, no real good local option at about the same distance, had to cut short and ride back.

Cold rain most of the way, greasy roads (not literally, but pretty much gritty/slippy.) Not sure when CR-42 (Peekamoose Road) may re-open, but it's supposed to be pretty spectacular riding.

It's a dang bother when the weather and road crews make your favorite ride slippery with debris.
A light snow prompted a coating of cinders that are in the twisty section. A rather Eye popping experience. Snow is all gone but the cinders are still lurking in the corners.

I always loved 42

If you are young you wouldn't know it used to go all the way then at one point the number dissapeared on some sections. On a gazzeteer you can still plot the route the whole way.

If you like 42 you will also like 8A in the berkshires

Peekamoose is a real fun road too bad it was closed.

Nearby is Rte 47 (Frost Valley Road) very similar to Rte 42, another beauty of a road! You could have taken that as an alternative,(assuming it was opened) you would have had to go a little further north to access it.

Frost Valley Road.
