Are all the Canadians out here getting messages from Stromtrooper about changes to Canadian laws regarding spam and asking for consent to send messages?

Yup, and from about 50 other places that have my email.

In addition, my work is sending them out to all our clients. They sent several hundreds out on my behalf. So I am getting back a lot of auto-repleis from clients that are away for the [Canada Day] long weekend. Probably got a hundred of those yesterday

For curiosity's sake, can we get a short version of the law or a link? I wonder if the one California member got a copy because of the CA state abbreviation. Verticalscope, the site owner, is headquartered in Canada so is probably complying with the law in sending out notices.

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has a pretty good summary:

Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation
Reasonable stuff. I wonder if it will do any good. The real spammers aren't exactly law abiding. I got three messages this morning from "Canadian" pharmacies selling "genuine" Viagra and Cialis.

I don't know how Verticalscope determines place of residence. It may be off ip addresses and Washington borders Canada.

The msg starts, "...Canada has a new anti-spam law that may affect our ability to send you information..." Apparently it applies to all s̶p̶a̶m̶ commercial electronic messages sent from Canada.

Anyway, I didn't consent. They can PM me vs. email.

I have accessed this site from Canadian IP addresses in the past when I visit the Great White. That could explain me getting one in California?
When determined user's locations by their IP. So anyone who is a member of any of our forums that has logged into the site while on a Canadian IP received the email and was opted out of email notifications. You will have to consent to the email to get email notifications from us in the future.

We here in Canada know all about the members locations, phone numbers, postal codes, dates of birth, family members, voting practices, religions, and favourite breakfast foods.

Fear us.

Fear not, there will be much partying and partaking of the holy bong of delight this weekend. We (The Toronto Amazons Motorcycle Club) will be leading the Dyke March and the 2014 World Pride Parade here in Toronto, Land of the Blessed Gheys.

Funny thing is, the Toronto Pride Parade is the largest congregation of heterosexuals in Canada. There are expected to be 2 million visitors to World Pride here in town.

Not bad for a bunch of gays, eh?

I've got a whole bunch of these in the past few days, as has every other Canadian. I think it's great.

I hate spam, whether via email or phone. I don't even want to hear from this forum, unless I log in.

Now if I could only tune out the other voices...:jawdrop:

It is such a stupid law.
All it is doing is hurting legit Canadian businesses, who do not even spam anyway.
Plus, it is almost like there is no "Block Sender" options in email clients... oh wait...
