My owned since new DL1000K4's GIVI crashbars, have cracked at the weld on one the mounting points on the right side bar. No big deal right, seen numerous reports on the web sites regarding this failure. GIVI has upgraded the the junction of the tubing to mounting bracket to deal with this fault. Purchased original set in Jan. 24/05, dropped them off to Cycle Works in Edm. AB on Oct. 10/06 to begin the warranty/replacement claim on these unmarked crashbars. Got word on Jan. 27/07 that Canadian distributer: Importations Thibault Ltd. has refused to honor this common failure, after viewing digital images taken and forwarded by their Alberta rep. Not only was I expecting replacement, but I wouldn't bother mounting anything other than the upgraded model. I'll be proceeding ahead with direct contact with THIBAULT Ltd., via e-mail and phone, but I'm sure disgusted and truly not suprised with this extremely large Canadian distributer's response. 90% of my purchases for this beloved bike has been made south of the border over the net, for savings on average of 50% below Canadian prices.

Anyone else in Canada have problems dealing with THIBAULT Ltd. in regards to honoring their product lines?

I really hate the whole accessory distribution we suffer through.

I bought a set of Metzelers from a local dealer for a previous bike. One of the tires was not entirely round. It took me a lot to finally get a warranty replacement.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you.

I feel for you guys. As a fellow Canadian who has lived abroad for several years, I went through it as well. I always found that the larger dealers in Canada were better dealing with warranty issues versus the small guy. If any of you are in the NC area, and want to drop ship anything to the house, and pick it up on your way through, give me a buzz. I'd be happy to do it to save customs BS etc. I do it for family members all the time for classic car resto parts. :)

After 19+ years of riding, I'm always amazed at how the Canadian motorcycle industry sometimes feels like you're dealing with an underground network of shady dealers and black market russian mobsters.

I mean, couldn't we have a standardized system of aftermarket suppliers/stores? God, for the amount of business we generate, it's amazing how hard it can be to find an honest dealer/seller.

Well I don't know about all dealers, but my dealer in Ontario Cycle City in Burlington and now GW Cycles in Calgary are very competive price wise on accessories. GIVI E41 are $469.00USD and I'm paying $545.00cdn. Figure in the exchange rate and the lack of a shipping charge and I'd say it's very competive. The E52 Maxia is $295 USD and I'm paying $345. Granted I'm getting a bit of a discount since I also purchased my bike there, but overall, I'd say I'm happy with the pricing. Now some things I ordered from the USA as they are simply not available locally.

Ordeal over, replacement 2nd gen. set for dealer cost...

Apparently Canadian warranty claim for weld cracked 1st generation crashbar set was turned down by GIVI USA for being past 1 year warranty period, purchased bars in winter... After constant pressure on western Canadian distributers rep, local dealer was supplied with 2nd generation set and I was charged $90.00 CDN. Many thanks to the rep for going the extra mile after much pressure on my part, but GIVI USA you frankly suck for not acknowledging a faulty first generation product! One of the reasons I'm running Touratech aluminum Zega panniers was my disgust with the lunchbox quality of GIVI bags hinge assembly and after my experience with their crashbars, it'll be a frosty day in Hell before I consider dealing with this company ever again.

It's not a segment bargain, it's just a great bike.
