BRP Photo-op Inoperable by Vandals

That's a damned shame. Like most vandalism in and around our urban areas its being done, most likely, by "locals" with a warped sense of fun. :bom_bigcry:

Here is my picture of it when I was there on June 13th this year:

Sad. A sign of the times.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is the same. There is a historic site named Gordon House and at that site is a stone column that had a nice brass plaque giving some information about the "Old Trace" where the home is located. Apparently someone decided that the plaque needed to be theirs since it is now gone.

Some people really suck ;(

Over the years I have stopped and taken pictures of myself, many friends, my wife and my son at that sign. I have seen pictures of others at it in several books. I just can't imagine the motivation of someone wanting to destroy it. I believe in karma and wish more did. Maybe some of the things like this would stop if people just would think a little more about just what they are doing. This is a loss for everyone.

Namaste,
Doug

That spot is a common turn-around point for me on my early morning sojourns. It's about a 100-mile round trip for me. Whenever friends or family visit we end up there and pose for pictures. My wife protests, saying I'm acting like a tourist. Which is fine by me, if after 15 years, I maintain the childlike wonder of our surrounding I must be in the right place.

I have a sneaking suspicion inebriants were involved.

Sign theft is nothing new... that's a bummer that it'll cost the taxpayers (government, local, whoever) money to fix it, hope they catch the people who did it so it comes straight out of their pocket instead.

That said, at least it's easily replaceable and not something hugely historic.

Maybe I'm old but I've never understood vandalism. When I was a teen, we got drunk and did stupid things but never once did we vandalise anything or intentionally threaten/intimidate anyone,

Back then, car lots were accessible at night and one could wander around dreaming of a "new" second-hand car. Not any more. They are all locked up at night. Graffiti was virtually unknown.

That 2nd pic is really neat Norm, even without the sign. When I was there in June some pricks had put graffiti on the sign, and I was pissed about that......now this happens.:furious:

I climbed up the rocks opposite the overlook to get the shot.
Unfortunately, I was not wearing sensible shoes and dared not climb further lest me and my camera tumble disastrously to the asphalt below.

Perhaps a signs reading: "Sniper-nforced Vandalism Prevention Zone" may work.*

Good to see the sign back.

Glad to hear this. Three of us are going to the Smokey's the weekend of the 16'th. One of the guys going with us has never been. Will be great to get a picture of him and his bike at the sign so he will have something other than the Killboy pic. Actually we will have a bunch of pics I expect but those two are always my favorites from the yearly trips up there. It is neat that I have pics from Killboy with me on three different bikes over the years (started going before he started taking pics so I don't have any pics of me in the curves of the Tail of the Dragon of those years).

Damn vandals.

Thanks for the update, Mike.
Your welcome Norm.

I put a few pics under the "Heading to the Blue Ridge Parkway" thread.

I rode up 215 when it was still dark, very exciting to say the least.

I was trying to get some good early morning pics, however the conditions

were not as I had anticipated.

A man after my own heart!
Plaques and anything that looks like copper are being ripped off and scrapped by hard working d-wads. Some times they get lucky and forget to shut off the power and electrocute themselves.
Lots of Clampper historic signs have been pinched too.
