Hi;

I'm quite new to the forum. I bought a DL1000X2 in December and this weekend I went on a great ride to the north of Tasmania. About 5km from home I came to a roundabout, and somehow my glove rolled open the throttle open as I was going for the brake lever. The bike surged forward up over a divider and then I was off! Broke my collar bone in the process. :bom_annoyed:

Thankfully I'd fitted a GIVI bar which took most of the impact on the bike, but the left footpeg bracket broken (see below pics).

I'd like some suggestions on repairs;

1. Can the footpeg brackets be welded (I gather they are alloy) The replacement is around $100 locally.

2. Are there any aftermarket brackets/pegs available that would be a good replacement. I am 6' 4" so wouldn't mind some extended leg room, though from what I've read there is often a problem with brake and or gear levers with extended peg setups.

It doesn't look like these have a full replacement footpeg bracket though. I've sent a inquiry to Motorradgarage to find out.

3. The left front indicator lense broke, and I gather you can only get full indicators OEM. I may look at alternative indicator units as I've seen elsewhere on the forum.

You could take this to a shop that welds aluminum, that's my guess at the material (could be wrong).
You could attempt a two part fix like JB Weld -- I don't know if that stuff's available in your part of the world.
You could just drop the cash and get a replacement part, new or used.


Seeing that peg helps support your life, my first choice would be replacement.
Second would be a good, healthy weld.
Third would be JB Weld.

I dropped my DL1000 and broke the left footpeg bracket and clutch lever. First, I ordered a new one.....but it took over 3 weeks before it arrived. BikeBandit.com has it listed for about $50. I didn't want to wait, so I had a co-worker weld the bracket for me. He was concerned about appearance and only welded the backside. It worked until I stood up on it and put my full weight on it. So, the next time "I" welded it......front, back and sides....all around it. Then took a die grinder and cleaned up the welds. Even used a sanding wheel and polished it up a little.

It is aluminum and requires someone that has the equipment to weld aluminum.

BTW, you should fix or replace the broken footpeg bracket before using any of the aftermarket footpegs. It looks like they use the factory peg mount.

Thanks for the replies! :) Much appreciated. I will try getting it welded, otherwise pay the $ for a replacement.
