I bought an 04 Dl1000 about a year ago that was equipped with a Suzuki center stand. The bike only had abouy 1200 miles and the owner only used the center stand for chain lubrication as he never figured out how to get it on the stand alone. I have put on about 7k additional miles and use the center stand only out of habit formed years ago as a result of other side stands sinking in the blacktop and letting the bikes fall.

Yesterday the foot petal part of the centerstand bent downward due to a broken weld and a collapsed tube as I deployed the stand.

Has anyone else seen this problem? Are the aftermarket stands better made? Any problem with cornering clearence witht the aftermarket stands?

Thanks

I put the SW-Motech stand on my '05 and had no issues with it other than bottoming in certain situations. Yesterday, I installed the Suzuki stand on my '07 and it seems to be fine so far. The ground clearance is higher, although the word is that newer production SW-Motech stands have a higher crossbar.

The Suzy stand comes with a longer early warning feeler for the bottom of the left footpeg.

When I was researching center-stands last year, I'm pretty sure that I read a post about the Suzy stand breaking in this manner. It seems pretty rare but I guess your number came up.

So I bought an SW-Motech stand. It works fine and the foot-pedal seems very robust.

I haven't had any major ground clearance issues with it; I did bounce it off a rock once but it may have saved my exhaust pipe from damage so I'm not complaining.

I've never had an issue with cornering clearance but I'm not a particularly aggressive rider. Poking along side roads is more my speed.

After getting the center-stand I added the Pat Walsh skid-plate/crash bar combo; this setup works fine together.

I installed the Suzuki cs and did notice what I would consider questionable welds. They did not look "very professional" for lack of a better term. Like someone was in a hurry. They looked strong enough so I am not going to worry.

As far an the feeler goes, it would make the bike look so stupid, I could not install it. If I get it over that far it's because I am in a lowside.:(

i have the hepco and becker CS. reports of the suzuki CS being weak prompted me to buy the HB, but i never heard about what the specific problem was with the zook model.

p.s.
i HAVE bottomed out on my CS, on a left hander while two-up. i ground a nice flat spot on it.
