Brake pads?

Looks like my front and rears are getting thin wandering what all people have had luck with. Looking for just a stockish pad I believe that's sintered from what I've read on here EBC gets quite a few recommends anyone had any luck with any lesser known brands don't necessarily want anything stronger just don't wanna trash my rotors with a bad product?

Sintered pads have metal in them and will wear rotors out a little faster than non-metallic types, with the advantage that they grab better in the wet and in general.

I buy organic pads from Sixity, they are ridiculously cheap at $18 including shipping for a complete F/R set. For my purposes which don't include track days, they stop just fine.

Can't go wrong with EBC. I sell tons of them and they're wonderful plus EBC site has the simple "bed-in" procedure available for you. Vesrah also excellent and bargain priced.
EBC sintered went on the front my 650 at 2K and were still on w/ about 1/3 left at 122K. Discs wore from 5.0 mm to 4.7 mm in that time. Braking power 50% better and it wasn't ever grabby(Actually a bit smoother).
On my 18 1000 the EBC's went on between 5-10K and now have 74K on it Same good results again.
Now the rear was a different animal. Didn't care for the sintered there. To strong, easy lockup and fast wear. Went back to organic or semi-sintered and was happier. I like to trail brake a lot and do go through rears about every 25-30K.

I'm not looking for super high performance just mainly commuting hoping to start doing some offroad exploring this summer but will probably be pretty few and far between. I remember hearing something about those sixity brand on another forum
EBC has a semi'metallic formula as well.
how does that compare to the sintered?
I went with EBC HH Front and rear on mine. Fronts were a vast improvement and I could easily lock up the rears but I do have a well trained and delicate brake foot😉.
Braking when riding "briskly" or especially two-up is very much improved.

As the name suggests, the material is gray with flakes of metal & the HH pads are all metal. It would depend on what you seek in changing a characteristic of the brake. If you gain grip you lose modulation. As Philbytx offers riding two up he needed more grip. If you are on gravel with dual disks you risk an unwanted skid so a wider band of control would be preferred.

The only reason to not use EBC's is if you ride on dirt a lot. The softer organic pads let gravel sink in and roll through, the EBC pads are much harder, will trap gravel and carve grooves in the disks. (I hit that problem).

That said, replacing disks is not stupid expensive or stupid hard.

What type comes stock on the 650 vstrom?

I'm not positive of the brand, (because of course Suzuki doesn't manufacture them in house), but they are an HH pad. I've tried various brands on my SV650, none were better than stock, and this is the same caliper, so I presume the same O. E. pads. Another advantage is the OE pads come with new shims.

Agree your comments about sintered on the rear being too strong. Had the same experience on another bike. Way too much initial bite and very different than every street and mx bike I've owned. Went back to stock.
The pads I have by SBS (Scandanavian Braking Systems) are same quality as EBC. Ive been using them for years. Vesrah pads are a good option too.

My '07 Vee had HH pads front and rear when I purchased it last Summer. Braking was weak as often noted on the forum. Over the Winter I changed the pads to cheap organic ones. Upon a few rides since, braking has sure improved, both in handle feel and stopping distance. I tossed-out those HH pads and will stay with organic ones.

Interesting indeed. Not doubting your impression of the 2 pads, but you bought this bike used and don't really know how the previous owner used or abused them. Did you deglaze the pads and disc or just change them out? This is something I do on most all tire changes and it always makes a noticeable difference. Both my 650 and 1000 had stronger and smoother braking upon the change to EBC HH.
