Bought a Booster Plug...

So after reading a few threads on this I thought I'd give it a shot. Cheaper than a PC or re-flash and totally plug and play so if I didn't like it I could just unplug it / sell it.

The packaging and little extras are a nice touch - someone has really thrown everything at this from a presentation and marketing perspective.

The box:

The actual unit:

A keyring:

And a few stickers (bit cheeky with the PC one...)

It also came with a neck sock / buff thingy:

So first impressions were good - bike fired up really easy and settled into a smoother idle. Seemed to rev a bit free-er on the stand.

On the road it does make a noticeable seat of the pants difference - seems to pull stronger and will pull from lower revs in taller gears a bit easier.

I suspect the fuel economy will go down (if it really is just richening the mixture) but I will have to test that out over time - I literally just rode the bike a few blocks than parked it.

Pretty happy at this point - and the best thing is that it is purely plug and play so I can take it off at any time without any recourse.

I've been using the booster plug for the last 3 years, it's not a total cure all for the snatchy throttle but combined with a throttle tamer it's made my Vee much easier to live with.

I haven't really noticed a dramatic impact on fuel consumption . If l'm doing highway miles l consistently get close to 400 km's a tank. I hope the booster plug works out for you.

Good to know about the range not being overly affected.
One of the best upgrades I made, together with the clutch basket. Much sweeter running engine now. Can accelerate from 2k rpm (within reason)
Not DL, but I installed one on a friend's 650 bmw, which ran extremely lean and was always finicky to start. Night and day difference overall.

That's interesting - I have a 2005 f650gs in the shed right now that I am working on to resell. It had been sitting for years so needed a new fuel pump and battery. Seems to run fine now but interesting about the improvements with the Booster Plug.
I have BP(s) on a couple of bikes. I'm a big fan.
I'll point out that I've come across a few folks who initially didn't take the time to locate the BP thermistor up front in ambient air and grumbled about it. They eventually did and then they loved it.

I will say I have the thermostat zip tied to a cable routing clamp on the frame spar just back from the headstock. It sits almost above the radiator and I might relocate it further forward. I understand the thermostat is a simple 2 wire arrangement and can be extended if required.

I can't say with certainty, but I'd suspect that the thermistor wire may play a part in the calibration (resistance, etc)
I would suspect that the wire runing to the plug connector would not.
You should contact Jens for the real answer. He is very god at answering emails. [ let us know if you do]

This is from their website - I thought I had read this and confirms you can extend the sensor wire easily....

".....The sensor cable is long enough to place the BoosterPlug sensor according to our instructions, but if you want to place the sensor in a special location far away from the installation point, you can extend the cable with ordinary 2-wire cable. No magic involved. Just solder the connections and seal with heat-shrink tube..."

I believe the TRE timing retard eliminator has been discontinued.

Question..........
Since the booster plug makes the ECU think the air temperature is colder, does it also effect the temperature display reading in the dash ?
No it only fools the gas injection volume calculation, enriches it a little.
The ambient temperature sensor is different.

I bought one from smart moto not too long ago

Perhaps there are still some out in the distribution channels, but their website says discontinued:

This one?

It's a shame it messes with the gear display (always shows 5).
