Good morning All,

Today when I was pulling my bike out, I started the bike as usual and put the bike in first. less than a minute later the bike died. I restarted it and got to second gear and it died again. I dragged the bike over and started it and let it run for about 5 minutes. Did my 4 mile commute and got to work fine but my question is,

1. It was 53 degrees out in SoCal, could moderate cold weather affect the bike from stalling? (less than 700 miles on bike, bike was not ridden for 3 days)
2. Would this be a battery issue? (I did install heated grips last week but make sure its off every time i get off bike)
3. I am unable to read my tire pressure. I tried 2 gauges and they both come back zero. The tires are full of air but I am unable to deflate them... Would this be covered on the suzuki warranty?

Did you try to depress the Schrader valve in the tire vave stems with a small screwdriver? Many pencil-type tire gauges have a small nub on the back of the head for deflating a tire. If you can deflate the tire with a small valve depressing tool you have 2 bad gauges.
Under warranty? Let the dealer deal with the problems. You paid for a warranty when you bought the bike.

Did the bike stall under acceleration or under deceleration? If it dies when you go to clutch and change gears it sounds like the TPS (it just drops past idle and stalls) but that would be unusual on such a new bike. As MAZ4ME said, I'd get it back to the dealer and let them sort it out on such a new bike.

Were the 2 gauges of the same type ?

Do you have your own gauge ? you should as it is the only way to get a reliable reading.

For a pressure gauge to work it must depress the Schrader valve in the valve stem when pushed on.

Sometimes the Schrader valve is so deep in the stem that a gauge will not depress the valve so you don't get a reading on the gauge.


Try a different type of gauge and practice on the front wheel as there is more room to move, when you find one that works stick with it.

For the stalling issue consider the side stand safety switch. It is a plunger type switch down by the sidestand pivot and the stand must retract fully for ignition. Could the stand pivot need a little lube down there?

Is your boot pushing against the sidestand causing the safety switch to momentary lose contact? And make sure the sidestand pushes the plunger in far enough. I had to bend the tang on mine.

Thank you all for the quick replies. I found the issue out a while back but forgot to post an update. My battery was dead so that caused the stalling and I took the bike back to the dealer and they fixed the tire issue (Tire was not mounted correctly to the rim).

Also, once a bike is running, the electrical current is provided by the generator and it is unlikely that once riding down the road that a partly charged battery will cause the engine to stall.

Never mind, all is good now and I guess that is all that matters.

I'm glad you got it all sorted out, but keep a close eye on things, it sounds like your dealer may or may not need a kick in the ass....... :p

Tire not mounted correctly? how so? (that has nothing to do with the tire pressure gauge.)

Battery dead? what caused that? (how did it start the bike?)

4 mile trips might not be ideal for your engine or maybe you are crawling in traffic.

The battery issue was found out by my heated grips (battery died again). I forgot to turn on the auto shut off feature (thought it would be on automatically), and for the tire I am not sure, I just went off what the dealership told me. I haven't ridden my bike since May (fractured femur, thanks to my dog) but I've been checking on it often. Hopefully I'll be back on in a month or so...

Hoping you have a quick recovery from that fractured femur. That's a serious injury, and potentially very dangerous as well. :smile2:
