I'm shopping for a touring jacket and need something to fit my size. I'm 6'2, 240 lbs. I ordered a Triumph model in an XL size from Revzilla and had to send it back because it was tiny, especially around my middle. Felt like I was wearing a kids jacket.

I'm afreaid if I go to a 2x or a 3x that the middle might be OK but the rest of it will be too large. Unfortunately there's no super store type place nearby (south of Pittsburgh) to try them on.

Any recommendations on a jacket for the "larger sized" rider?

I think I want a Tourmaster Transition 4 but have no idea what size to order.

I'm guessing you need a 2X. I'm 6' 215lbs and every coat I own is 2X. Joe Rocket, Tourmaster, Olympia, etc. They are a little loose when it is just the coat, but when I have the liner in they fit right.

I'm 6'1" and 250. Good luck finding anything with a European cut that will be a nice fit. Given it was a Triumph jacket I would suspect the jacket had a slim European cut. I tried Rev-it and other European cuts but was at the largest size they made (56?) and it was still tight in the shoulders/arms, especially with arms raised in the riding position.

My summer gear is Olympia XL and has a lot of adjustability. XXL would have worked also but given it was summer gear I wanted more of a snug fit-snug without binding. Tourmaster, Olympia and brands with an American cut are probably going to be your best bet for a comfortable fit.

If you find something you really like I would like to hear about it.

I have a tour master Saber series 3 in 3X I use it for colder stuff around DFW. It fits me a little long but it feels great on the bike. I am about 2 inches shorter than you so it may suit you better where it comes to height. The shoulder and midsection are appropriate for my size and girth, so if you are a skinny 6 1 then you'll probably be cinching in something that size but its got room to put something further underneath if I am that cold. The only issue I had with it was the neck section was very stiff and rubbed a spot on my neck raw on a 4 hour ride I did last year. I took some velvet and had it sewn in around the neck strap area and it works nicely now. I had my doubts initially in the fact that it was bargain priced but I bike on a budget so it was worth testing, since it could be returned. It's an older model but I am sure there is a 4.0 or 5.0 version out now that replaced it with minor updates... (Darn, now you got me thinking about new jackets and pants... :p)

6'1 313 can fit into a First Gear Kilimanjaro 2X w/ liner and a heated underlay but the 3X fits me better overall.

The European designers are generally more slender for the same label size than the U.S. designers. Find a vendor with a great return policy.

Take a ride up to Toronto and haggle with my kid over his year old Scott Distinct 2. He is 6' and was 260 lb but has dropped so much weight he's in the market for a different jacket.

I love mine up to about 85 degrees...then it is too hot. Comes with a liner. You simply can't go by listed sizes. This is European cut and very adjustable fit.
The pockets and feature set are just terrific and it is waterproof but it breathes. I really enjoyed spending 3 weeks riding in this in BC, Glacier Nat; park, Yellowstone Beartooth and home across the plains.
