I just love experts!:fineprint:
I only posted what works for me, I'm no expert.

But I'm not f***ing stupid either.

The experts were the ones who did the tests and the story reported on TV.

This is a great forum, but I'm getting a little tired of the sniping that goes on here, especially from people who no longer own a Strom.

Go buy another one Brian, and lighten up.
If you don't like the thread and the comments posted by people, don't read it.

ive got that much extra mpg before w/91. but, my overall (6.5k) average increase is 2.7mpg w/91 vs 87.
So...let's do some math using SoCal fuel prices.

$3.89/gallon for 87 octane at 40MPG = $0.09725 per mile traveled.

$4.19/gallon for 91 octane at 42.7MPG = $0.09812 per mile traveled.

I am going to be generous and say that there is no cost difference between 97 & 91 octane.

Let's for argument sake use the 5 MPG better figure.

$4.19/gallon for 91 octane at 45MPG = $0.09311 per mile traveled.

Don't know if I'm posting reply in the right spot, but....
I wish I could "only" get 190 miles per tank...
As it is I get between 150 & 160 miles per fill-up.

I can honestly say that I get 200 per tank when my lights start flashing at me. When I fill up it is usually 4.9 gallons which leaves me at almost another gallon to go on.

What are your mods?

actually, since the fuel pump is in the tank, you only have about 5.2 -5.3 usable space.... pushing it to 4.9 is too close for comfort for me.

:furious:

Then why the hell would they list that as the capacity?

My 22 litre tank takes 21.4 litres when empty. Don't ask me how I know :)

Empty is the lowest point it will pickup from.

Why did you buy a Vee in the first place?

They're a hooligan fun bike, not a gas sipping moped.

Just ride the thing and enjoy it.

If gas is an issue, get rid of the Vee and get yourself a scooter.

I need better fuel economy! I bought a 2003 dl1000 a month ago, and im averaging about 40mpg, driving it very lightly.. in other words not exceeding 4000 rpm. Is this normal? Is there anything I can do to raise that? I cleaned the air filter so far, and that got me from 37 to 41 mpg. The previous owner said he had the bike remapped for better mid range torque, that is probably what is ruining my mileage.

Still a fun bike, and a perfect companion to the dr650, just sucks only going 190 miles before all the fuel bars disappear and flash..
My 2003 DL1000 has never been remapped. I run Scorpion cannisters.

It is very easy for me to return a tank at over 50 mpg. Now the engine does run a bit rough in warm weather but I can still get 50 mpg or better when it is running rough. Really, it only runs rough at around 3,600 to 4,000 rpms. But those are the kind of rpms you have to run to get 50+mpg.

While yes, it is slightly more expensive, I enjoy the extra 5mpg*5g = 25 mile range and what seems to me to be a smoother ride. It's probably in part to how I have mapped the bike, but that combined with they type of gas gives the bike a more predictable feeling power most likely due to regular gas pre-ignition.

When figuring gas mileage are you hooligans using your bike odometer? How reliable is the odometer? I like having a bike that can reliably do 200 miles per tank. Sometimes you buy quality gas and you get 50 miles to the gallon (on my ZX9). Does anybody have the experience of getting a unbelievable mpg occasionally?

Hi test

Is supposed to stop detonation, so if there is a mileage improvement do we have detonation. I am going to throw in some octane booster I have next trip and see.

remapped stock ecu usually right at 40 +/- .5

I am also naive enough to believe that the "super" has more additives too.
