And what type pug is best, i.e. BMW type or regular...cigarette type 12 volt...car type thingy...like what Walmart has for $5?

All of Gerbings gear comes with a lead that goes right to the battery. Wire it in and let the connector pigtail come up between the seat and the tank. Perfect location. No extra socket required.

Just put a power outlet on my Vee. To use for GPS, phone charging and hopefully some heated gear this winter, tired of riding COLD!

Got a generic outlet that had two clips for hooking to a battery. Cut those off, put a round terminal on each lead, drilled a hole in the left front corner of the storage tray and fed the wire through to the respective battery terminals. Ended up shortening the + lead and re-crimping another round terminal end so it looks even more "custom" than having excess wire balled up.

Now I have an outlet that sits nicely in the tray, and it with my tank bra, I can feed the wire up close to the handlbar and power the GPS. Phone sits nicely under the seat, charging up overnight while on the road, and ready to go!

Should work as well for heated gear this winter.

Thanks. And so does warm and Safe. Guess I should have done my research first.

there are several companies that make a SAE to 12v outlet adaptor, it's easy enuf to make your own

I have 2 pigtails from my battery, one my Gerbings coaxial pigtail the other is a SAE pigtail, I have a SAE to 12v outlet, gets used mostly to plug in my 12v compressor, and a SAE to Gerbings coaxial, used when 2up and we both have heat

I could never see the point in permenently mounting a 12v socket

Though they sale them, the Warm and Safe folks, in BIG FONT, advise against using SAE pigtails unless you absolutely have too.

I’d like to run a Coaxial directly to the battery alone with three other components. That’s too many things running to the battery.

There's nothing wrong with SAE connections. They used them ror decades in cars. There's especially nothing wrong with them if you have equipment that gets power that way!
