The wind did it! I came out of my flat yesterday and there was red-bike, on her side. Very strong winds in New York yesterday - she's locked up in a place where NO ONE can knock her over. Anyhow, the bar is bent, and the forks are a little off. So - to OEM or not to OEM, THAT is the question. I'm happy with the riding position, etc, of the OEM bar. I'm 5' 10", and it fits me just fine. A new one is $56 bucks plus shipping, from babbits.com. Can I do better with a different bar? There seem to be loads of them avail at amotostuff.com. Please let me know your happy/sad replacement bar stories. Also, any just PULL really hard and get it back to stock? I gave mine a good tug and got it half way back.

If you go with aluminum bars and not the OEM, make sure you read up on how to install. The inside diameter of alu bars is smaller, so you'll need to mod your bar ends a little bit. I'm using MSR bars; half the price, less vibrations, and better ergos. What do you mean "forks are a little off"?

I have a set of MSR's ATV HIGH bars on my V. I found them for under $15.00. They're about an inch taller than stock, have less angle at the ends than stock and are a direct bolt-on.

I ordered the MSRs

Mostly because they come in red! I also ordered an set of OEMs, since i can always return one. I'm not interested in doing much tinkering, just fixing the problem. Riddle me this, Heavy, did you have to do much rerouting of the electrical cables? Is the bar compliant at ful lock? Also, any issues with windscreens? Let me know, I'm interested now that I own a set.

Also, I know the forks are a bit off because the my tripletree is a little canted to the left when I'm going straight. When the bike blew over, the front wheel lock was on. Apparently, I'm told, it's pretty common for the front wheel to get a bit out of alignment after a knock down... It's a simple matter of putting her on a lift and loosening the tripletree pinch bolts.. but I don't have a lift!

No big deal with cables or anything. I think I rotated my throttle cables further forward and just found some slack in others. Eventually, I went to braided steel brake and clutch lines and I ordered those an inch longer than stock for good measure. I got the silver bars, which end up to be more of a titanium colour and go very well with my grey '06.

Let me know if you gottem. I have both OEM bars and red high ATV bars... Tell me more about how it changed your seating position? How tall are you? I'm 5'10" and 185.

I'm 5'10" and a fair bit heftier than you. Lots of pictures of the bike, none that show the handlebars well. Biggest improvement for me was the fact that the MSR bars do not have as much pullback (bend at the ends). They put my wrists at a much more comfortable angle.
