Just picked up Equus 3721 Battery and Charging System Monitor at walmart for 15.97 and hacked off the cigarette lighter receptacle filled the opening with silicone and heat shrinked the wire.
Looks like it will be a great battery monitor. It shows a backlit digital voltage with 2 decimal places (13.56VDC) as well as a red, green and yellow led for quick battery check. Liked it so much I just ordered two more. One for me to check vehicles quickly and one for a friend at amazon.com for $25.98. A little velcro and a quick hook into the electrical and I will have a place to keep an eye out on the battery and charging system.
Somehow it can differentiate between just the battery voltage and the charging voltage.
Here is a link to it via a google shopping link for everyones convience.

Update: Just soldered a fuse inline with the positive terminal that came with the device. Hooker er up, mounted with velcro and walla! A nice cheap way to monitor your battery. Looks like mine showing her age cause it's under 12 vdc when the key is on. Here are some pictures.

Dave

That's certainly a quick and easy solution. I went a little different route and added this voltmeter as I need that 12v dash connector for my GPS. Voltermeter was 10 including shipping, box was 3 I think and switch was 4.
