Hello,

Yesterday I installed some barkbusters aluminum hand guards to the Pro Taper SE ATV bars on my 2006 dl650. Everything is on tight and snug, but I wouldn't say that it's a perfect match. Is it normal to have to muscle the different parts around to get them to fit? Most notably, it looks like the spreader insert didn't make it 100% of the way inside the bar end, hopefully visible in the photo of the clutch side.

Also, I ended up rerouting the brake line as it comes out of the master cylinder. There is a tab on the bottom corner right where the line bolts in, and the line was originally routed below that tab (as seen in the daytime photo). I rerouted the line above the tab (shown in the darker photo) to provide more room for the barkbusters mounts. Is there any reason this shouldn't be done?

In rerouting the brake line, I had to pull some slack up. There is a little tab/line holder (in last photo) that is bolted to the forks, and I wasn't able to actually pull any slack through the mount so I just pivoted the mount and bolted in firmly. There seems to be plenty of brake line slack below this tab/mount, should I be able to pull some through somehow? The previous owner installed risers, and now with this adjustment the upper line is pretty taught, though seemingly okay.

I've only put 3000 miles on this, my first bike. So I'm cautiously entering the farkling space and excited about the guidance and vast amount of information this forum provides new riders and farklers!

Are those BB's for a Strom ?

You have the clamp that goes around the bars, from that clamp you have a straight rod (like my dirt bike) on my Stroms they have a dog leg instead of that straight rod.

Nope, they are a universal fit as far as I know. I found them on the cheap through Amazon one day and pulled the trigger. I figured since I have non original ProTaper bars it'd be a good bet. Seems like a dog leg might line things up better, though.

Mine have the dog leg and with those there are a couple of different ways to mount them. I had to move that brake line slightly to get a good fit. Seems like I remember the BB bracket can go above or below the brake line (you have to switch sides with the pieces). I put mine on one way, then tried it the other way, and seems like I moved them back to the original way, but not at home right now and can't remember how I finally left it. One line of reasoning was to mount them in such a way that if the bike went down, the guard would not hit any brake parts and damage them. Basically whatever works for you is fine.

When I put on my risers I completely unhooked that brake line support - I did have to put a cable tie on to keep it from snagging when turning the wheel.
