Who is coming again........Korny?? Happy Hooker?? Micky?? I will have Swap Meet Spots H-30 & 31 (20' x 40') again this year. I'm bringing a vanload of items to sell. My buddies from Decatur are bring 3-5 bikes to sell (nice, no junk) at our spot. Free shade, place to sit, bottled waters, smoked wings for Friday Lunch, Brats/dogs on Saturday. I will have a Honda Generator this year + 2 boxfans to keep us kool (now watch it be in the 40's-50's now that I said that!!).........October in Bamaland = you never know!! I have over a dozen Jackets/Pants/Boots/Gloves for sale, most are brand new NOS, some gently used........
This event will blow your mind if you have never attended........!!!!!! :fineprint:

I'm going to try to zip over from the ATL for the day.. I'll be sure to swing by if I do..

This is an amazing show folks.. If you've never been to Barber or to the Vintage Fest, it is WELL worth your time to make the pilgrimage.. So much to see and do.....and checking out the museum is just icing on the cake.

Above where when I brought it home. Basically it was a $3,000 paint job on top of a 45 year old motorcycle, but I bike that had been stored indoors that whole time.

I'm way into the parts removal, polishing to mirror finish, re-zinc plating process, and upgrading a few critical items like swing arm bushings and head bearings, shocks, brakes, etc. You can see in the picture above there are no shocks in the back. The PO cut off the shock and turn signal mounts and welded on solid struts to lower the bike.





I have to tell you, this is a dream project. It's no wonder people do it. There is nothing quite like pulling off a 45 year old part, bead blasting, powder coating, and having it look new. Except maybe taking a 45 year old rusty part off and going through the stripping/plating/polishing process to make it shiny new again.

If I make Barber it will probably be with a partial restoration, but it will still look good and ride better than new,

I'm going to try a plasticizer to rejuvenate the crank seals, but may need to replace pistons and rings. Clutch is shot and will need replacing.

Oh, an I'm putting a dual caliper/disc DL1000 brake system on it using two stock rotors. So hopefully withe the brake and handling changes it will be a "widow maker" in name only.

The guy who sold it to m has over 50 bikes that have to be sold before he moves to Florida. I'm hoping to get a good deal on an H2, Commando, or T500.

I was at Barber Vintage Festival several years ago. Walk in the door and off to the right is a Britten a little deeper a Ducati Super Mono and then Heskeith then a.........The problem with Barber is its too good. There are so many bikes you become desentized. I mean a Britten would be the main centerpiece in almost any other museum. At Barber its just another bike sitting next to another and so on.

I'd like to get back sometime when the festival is not going on so its a little less crowded and really spend some time really looking around.

Museum.........

Couple years ago, The Britton was the marque bike for the festival. George had all (but one, I believe??) of the remaining existing Britton bikes flown in for the display. John Britton was an engineering/bike designer genius...…..skimmed thru his book. The guy was taken from us too early by cancer.

Museum...…...they have added a $1M (cost rumors) bridge from the museum, over the track, to part of the enfield…….and new expansion to the museum. Now show casing dirt bikes. Swap meet added 200 more spaces last year...….now 600 total...….up on the hill near RV parking. Not ideal (splitting swap meet areas) but seemed to work OK (it was hot as hell +1 up there on the asphalt last year...….just hot as hell down in the lower 40 swap meet area :furious: ).
They have more DEMO rides this year. (ha ha.....here at work, DEMO stands for "Demolition"...…… :fineprint:)

I stopped at the Barber Museum on my return cross country trip when I picked up my DL1000. It has to be by far the best motorcycle museum in the world. Everything the Guggenheim Museum's "Art of the Motorcycle" had and much, much, more.

It would be easy to spend a couple of days there. And I sure would like to get to know there research center and the restoration facility.

The basement floor is typically closed off to the Public during the year...…...there is where the paint shop, Dyno Room, restoration & assembly shops live. But, during the Vintage Festival, they open the basement up to the general public. :grin2:
Old George also has probably 500-800 cycles stored away, just waiting to be resurrected...….some are donated cycles from folks all over the USA. Once you do make it to the Museum, my brother's picture is posted on the wall, left side, directly past the ticket desk. He and his old phardt biker buddies have ridden all over the USA together, and when they would stop at a scenic location (Grand Canyon, for example) they would hold up the Barber Banner for the camera. George and my half-Bro grew up together here in Mtn Brook...…...two poor-little rich kids!!

What is the process for swapping/selling stuff. I might pick up another Mach III for parts and need to sell what I don't use.
Rick..........the Swap Meet contains approximately 500-600 vendors now, selling everything under the sun. You WILL find Triple parts there.......but bring yer wallet (as you probably already know). The Swap Meet Vendor slots sell out 6 months before the event....you need to get on their "waiting list" if you want a 20'x20' spot.......they are $150-$200 each, comes with two vendor tickets for the weekend, a vehicle pass to enter the swap meet, and you can "move in" on Wednesday......General Public comes in on Friday. Wed & Thurs is spent selling stuff to other vendors/racers.....ha ha. Unfortunately, the event has grown so big, that getting a vehicle INSIDE the campus can be difficult.......you must buy a Lot E Parking Pass (they also sell out quickly), otherwise you park offsite at the Barber Blvd Entrance and ride their shuttle in (approximately a mile away). Or, if riding a bike into the event, parking inside is free. So toting parts in or out takes planning. You are welcome to bring any parts (or store any parts) at my Swap Meet Space H30/31 while there........someone is there from 6 to 6 everyday......I run home at night to sleep in my own bed!! We cover everything at night and my nextdoor neighbors watch everything.....NEVER had any kinds of theft problems. We look out for each other.

Flying in from San Diego for the third year. Always blows me away, three days of Moto overload. Retiring before next year so maybe I will have the time to ride in.
