i know, i know . . . "not another luggage thread!".

yes, yes, i have used the board search engine and surfed the web, but i only ended up with more questions . . . .

basically, i'm looking to outfit my wee with a complete set of luggage, racks/plates/brackets included, for as close to $500 as possible. i'm definitely looking for function over fashion. i love the caribou cases, but the complete set-up is about twice what i'm willing to spend on this. my house needs a new roof, too .

i'm looking for any advice and first-hand experience from the folks who have done this to a price point.

thanks in advance.

The Caribou cases are listed for $795 with shipping. Certainly more than the $500 you're wanting to spend, but not twice as much. It's one of the least expensive complete luggage systems you'll find.

For budget... look at some homemade stuff. SWMotech racks and ammo boxes, for instance. If you're more handy than that, get a set of Pelican cases and make your own racks for 'em.

JC Whitney top case for under $80 delivered.
This puts you a bit over $500 but it's a rock solid set-up
i'll buy pelicans for that price.

how much work is it to fit the pelican cases to the sw motech racks? and, do i need to do anything to the cargo rack to mount the jc whitney topcase?

thanks for the responses so far :) .

I also have Toms set up "thanks Tom", and I am more than pleased with it. I for sure have less than $500 in the whole set up, and the cases are easy/cheap to replace if I ever need to. I really wanted the aluminum KLR set up....but they were on back order.

How about:

(2) Givi E36NJ's = $256.00
(1) Givi PL532 Sidecase Racks = $145.00

Free shipping from Sporttour.com

That's 72 liters of keyed alike storage space for $401.00. Not too bad for the money.

$50??? For luggage?

That is surely way too much!

http://www.stromtrooper.com/forums/showthread.php?p=182457&highlight=verandah#post182457 and then scroll down until you see my ugly puss.

$2 for wood, $21 for the 96-liter box at Wally World, and $1 for screws.

As you can see, my Wee-Strom is a top-heavy bag o' bolts, but it gets me there and keeps my stuff dry. The photo was taken in Newfoundland, just one of the ten provinces I have ridden to (the Wal-Mart box has been to just six, but it has been to nine states).

Oh, you want a side case. Well, I found an aluminum suitcase in a dumpster, and I will some day rig brackets to mount it on the port side, exactly where the unnecessary muffler isn't. Born asymmetric, it can stay asymmetric!

Ingenuity helps a lot when you are a parsimonious old curmudgeon!

I almost bought the exact same thing. At the end of the day, I passed on the top case mount and Givi E45 and bought the JC Whitney equivelent off Ebay for $75 shipped. That's a savings of nearly $200. It's not Givi quality, but well worth the price. That $200 will buy a set of crash bars and some hand guards.
