I just got the Givi engine side guards for my '07 Strom... I assumed I would be getting current products but I'm a little bit worried.

They say "2003-2004." Do they all say that? Will these fit?

If they are old -do I need to be worried that they're the old design with issues (Bad welds, weak & etc.)?

Can someone tell me if they all say this or was I swindled?

Thanks!!!!

See if the tubing is welded to the brackets. That's the old style. If there is instead a compression ring around the tubing near where it meets the bracket, it's the new type. The old type is known for breaking welds.

Here is a link to a thread with some pictures of the difference between the old design and new design on the other forum:

I believe the new design not only addresses the welds breaking, but also supposedly takes care of the vibration issues.

Oh wonderful, I just ordered a set from Twisted and the part number is the same as the one the other thread says is the old P# (TN532):???:

What's their return policy like?

I think mine are the "New Style", but I could be wrong. If so the compression ring is only on the upper bracket right under the edge of the fairing. On mine the lower brackets are welded to the tubes.

Either way I'm pleased with them and haven't had any weld or vibration problems in about 8k miles. Only time will tell though.

Part number is the same for both, they just started a running change. You won't know if you have old or new till you get them and look at them. Let us know what you get as I was planning on ordering some from Twisted Throttle too but don't want the old design. Worst case call up Givi if they are old, complain about them, and ask for a new design replacement.

When I talked to Adam at Twisted Throttle this morning to ask about the update, he put my on hold and called Givi himself. It seems the P# *is* the same but the upgrade was made about a year ago, and though I asked he never mentioned whether or not the fittings were welded or screwed in place.

I guess I'll see when they get here, and I'll let you know what's what.

Hopefully both Givi and Twisted Throttle have moved enough product to get all of the old ones out of the system.
