Anyone tried these recently? I am being told that these are perfect for the 90/10 rider and are higher mileage tires than most. Only interested in comments if you used these particular tires. Thanks but I don't need information on any other tires like these threads often go.

They are just called the "Trail Riders", there is an active thread open on these tires. They don't appear to get good overall mileage at all, you would be better suited with Shinko 705's IMHO and especially for the money you will save. They handle very well in the wet and stick like crazy on dry pavement, but once again the mileage claims appears to be "very exaggerated". My next road suited tire will be the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II, that is what comes on the Ducati Multistrada Enduro, they get EXCELLENT overall reviews.

Thanks. Those Pirelli Scorpion Trail's were also mentioned to me by several folks as great tires from the local BMW club. The MototireUSA near me handles them but has to order those in but says only a day or two. I will probably just do the rear first. Again, I think they seem to be that occasional gravel/fire road tire but great on pavement with better mileage. The Shinko's are a drop in mileage from the TKC70s I had on the 650. I really like not changing the tires often given the miles I ride.

I like MotoTireUSA (at least this one) because they are reasonable and treat the bikes like they are priceless. They have a big picture window so you can watch them work from like ten feet away. I bought four tires there so far.

Be sure to get the "Trail II" and not the original trails. Also you really don't give up that much mileage with the 705 Shinko, the rears average 5 to 7 thousand typically and the front is 10 to 12 for most riders.....plus you can get a rear 705 for barely over $100. :fineprint:

They don't keep the Shinko's in stock either but can get them. He told me they don't sell many of them for the adventure bikes for some reason down here. He only stocks the most popular stuff. He said they do sell a lot of K60s, TKC80s, and TKC70s, and Michelin on adventure bikes. lol

My Wee has the Distanzias on it now from previous owner. I actually like the tires quite a bit. They handle very well on pavement. Can't speak for wear as I don't know how many miles are on them. I'm looking at replacing with the TrailRiders by Avon or the Pirellis above before next summer.

I've had 3 sets of the Avon Distanza on my SV 650. Love 'em. They are discontinued now with the TrailRider as the replacement. I currently have about 3800 miles on TrailRiders on my V2. I like them a lot.

The TrailRiders are a very modern tire with a different tread and design than the Distanza. What I miss about the Distanza is that when they are really pushed, they "walk" just a little so you know exactly where you stand on the hero-to-zero scale. Mind you my SV doesn't handle as well as my V2 so it is hard to make a direct comparison. Still the TrailRiders have not given me any trouble even with the pegs scraping. They also have a much more wrap-around tread. At about 3800 miles they don't really show any wear and more importantly to me they have not gotten even a little bit flat down the center. Just today I rode them on wet sandy roads. I tested them against the traction control and never blipped the light.

One of the things I really like about the Avon brand is how round the cross section profile is. There is zero transition as you go from side to side. The older guys will remember the Dunlops that were shaped like a "V" (K81 / TT100 ?). Those were the hot set up for some years and contributed to my gray hair every time I pitched it into a turn and felt like the elevator cable had snapped. These are the exact opposite. You can just dial it over and back with no steps.

The other thing I like about the brand is that all of their tires are made in the original plant in England. They don't subcontract. If you read some of the interviews of the engineers you learn how much effort goes into the material science of the tires and those molded water pockets. The TrailRider was in development for 3 years.

As regards mileage, I'm not after the last thousand miles. I'm not after the best price per mile. Year after year without regard to brand I refresh my tires right around the 7000 - 8000 mile mark. My thrift chromosome kicks in early but I always ask myself - Would spend that extra $60 in that last two tenths of a second ...

You guys are making it hard for me to choose between the Avon TrailRiders and Pirelli Scorpion Trail II!
Fortunately I have a few thousands miles left on OEMs before I need to choose, so can wait for more data :nerd:

I have a few thousand miles left on the original BW rear as well. I normally do about a thousand a month although winter is less. I am getting a head start on the selection process as well.

Understood. We use the freeway to get up to the mountains. I used these for about 3 hours on I-80 at a unpublished rate. They were quite, smooth and didn't react to highway seams or cross winds. I'd say they are about as good as anything else. Not sure if I could feel any real difference from my Battlax S21 on a different bike.
