Given the deer population here I've considered putting some "ditch" lights on. Without spending a million dollars could anyone recommend a set I could mount up? I do have crash bars already that they perhaps could mount to.

I found all the vehicle specific aftermarket lights to be way to over priced for my liking. Yes, I'm cheap. I picked up a Chinese import "cree" light kit from a US seller on eBay. First, I suspect not really Cree brand parts and they were just a pair of lights without a whole switch kit. Electrical doesn't bother me so that wasn't really missed. When I plugged them into 12v they were bright. Mounted with a simple lighted switch on the handlebar and they worked. I can't believe I spent more than $25 total. If using existing mounting point look for ones with a decent adjustable mount.

I'm with Cheap A$$ Rick on this one, and went cheap on the lights. Loads of lights on Amazon and eBay (and even cheaper on alibaba / aliexpress, if you're willing to go down that road, wait a bit, and forego access to potentially useful reviews). I found some on Amazon with a sufficient number of reasonably good reviews (primarily off-road 4-wheeler types).

The one thing I didn't go cheap on: a Skene IQ-275 controller (~$70). I want my aux lights on day and night. But at night, since none of the cheapies I've found have a low-proper beam cutoff, they blind other vehicles.

At the moment, I have my IQ-275 configured to run (user-configurable) dim on low-beam and full intensity on high beams. One of my next projects will be to add a switch so I can use the IQ-275 to run the aux lights with my low-beams at 2 different levels of dim (again, user-configurable) + outright off (high-beams will remain full intensity).

AlsoRan, an excellent source for aux LED lights is LEDriders.com. Products are great. Customer service is fantastic. Give them a call and talk through what you want to accomplish. They'll help with ideas, wiring schematics, dimmers, etc.... and they seem to have more than what's shown on their website.

Thanks for the info. I do want independent off/on/and high. I don't want to fork over an arm and a leg for the impressive "PIAA" logo. Well ok I DO but I don't want to pay for it :thumbup: After looking at the pricing someones been smoking crack. They're lights with an on off switch I just don't see how they justify it. I'm pretty good with wiring so not afraid to put in the labor. Thanks again.

I suspect that the "arm and a leg" mostly pays for the "DOT Certified" logo. All of the cheapies I've seen out there are not DOT-approved and are marketed for "off-road use ONLY".

I tried using my crash bars but they produced too much vibration. The difference between cheap and expensive leds is the quality of the reflector. Light going where you need it vs where you don't.

Do you want to be able to dim the lights?

I fitted cyclops long range optimus leds, skeene dimmer hooked up to a 3 position switch and the high beam switch and mounted with a modified sw-motech bracket. Worth every penny. Better lighting than my f250.

My Amazon el cheapo LED's are going strong on 3 years now, and yes they have taken much abuse and weather conditions. I have mine hooked into my PC-8 and they come on with the ignition, I had no need or desire for a switch or rheostat.

All good info, after a search I was afloat in a sea of LED's. Lumins watts 1 2 4 bulbs etc. I don't want crap on the bike but looking for middle ground.Yeah Marcham I'd like have - on off high - independent of any other lights. I need to understand what makes a good light besides who's name is on it. I like doing it myself. It's a part of biking I enjoy. If it's going to cost as much to do it myself as a kit in a shiny box though then it's kinda pointless. Again I appreciate all the in put. If anyone can school me on the Lumin watt reflector focal thing I'm all ears or eyes as it were.

The wiring harness has been refined for the absolute simplest installation on V-Stroms. Red to battery positive, black to battery negative, and white to a switched source.

The only bike we do not offer a light bar for yet is the 2017 DL650. I expect that to change a few days after I get a chance to take some measurements on one.

It's for a 2003 DL1000. It does appear you have it pretty much worked out. Do you have an independent switch for off low high?

Wee light bar - No pictures yet, but installations are happening now that I have the kit on our website, so it will not be long before we have pics.

Our switch is an on/off LED switch. I just can't get excited about dimming lights added for increasing visibility.

I got the nilight from Amazon. I don't have them wired on the bike yet, but this is a spot and flood mounted on the back porch.

This is how I have them mounted for now.
Not wanting to disparage anybody's work, but those "bars" protruding, with the lights mounted on. They look like they would want to take the bark from my shins all day long. And I can already see myself impaled on one in an awkward spill. Or is it just the angle i'm looking from? :)

They are out in front a good bit. I put them there to use as "highway pegs" the mounts I wanted to use did not work. I am planning on getting the tourtech mounts soon.

I'm with BigB and bought some amazon lights for $49 for the pair as I recall, but I did buy Ricks light bar. Nice combo and can be seen!
