My husband and I are considering a couple Autocom systems for our bikes. Has anyone had any experiences with either the Active-Plus or Super Pro AVi systems? We would also be very interested in any headset experiences; we both have Shoei X11’s which are full face helmets.

We have our hand signals we use but being able to talk to each other bike to bike would be really nice.

thanks,
tstrom

I have an Active-plus. I don't do any real two up riding so I don't have it configured for that.

For communicating with other riders and hooking up music, etc it works very well.

I have the super pro avi, and a Shoei RF1000. It works very well for everything. zumo/radar/music/ and cell all work great. Once it was setup properly no one even knows I'm on a bike. It was pricey, but so far after setup everything has been just peachy. I really like the automatic volume leveling, although I had to try the built in mike in a few different places to get it right. The vox also works perfectly.

Here was my install:

Let us know if you have any specific questions as all these com units seem pretty complicated. I don't really think you can go wrong with either the autocom or starcom1.

Just shows to go you....I couldn't stand the AGC and disabled it internally. I'm a pro audio guy. If I don't move a control, I don't want the volume changing. :devil_16:

That's what I had originally figured too (just a ham radio guy, not a pro :) ) However lots of my trips take me from wind sheltered back roads at 25mph, to brief stretches of 65mph, back to 30 and I eventually found it to be to much work to be constantly changing. It was a pain to get setup (till another kind soul with the same helmet showed me a good spot). Here's some more autocom reviews on pashnit: http://www.pashnit.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205

I used it for six months before I killed it. AGC is fine with just the helmet speakers, but I usually use isolating earbuds and just don't need that much variation in volume.

I really like the Autocom, except for the lack of a block diagram or schematic. I'd never buy an audio mixer without seeing one first, so it took me a very long time to get over it.

So are you using 2 meters on the bike?

Autocm and CB

I have one set up that I finally got to work, give me a call. If you can go to FRS GMRS it works a lot better. CB is just a noisy disaster waiting to happen. (old technology) the am band is suseptable to picking up lots of noise and interfrerance..............918-446-2245 excuse my spelling :mod2_helpsmilie:

This is what Autocom USA said when I asked about CB:

---------------
We don't recommend using CB's with our system however do understand the need to use them. Customers with this type of setup generally use cobra handheld models either 38WXST or 45WXST which will use part 1433 or 1434 for the interface.
---------------

Is this the setup you used? How well does it work? If not this setup, what did you do?

..Tom

Cobra

Yes the Cobra is what I used but there were other things that had to be done to get it to work.

1. must use PTT privacy switch

2. Must use 2 radio shack RF Chokes

3. must put the radios in quiet mode

4. radio must stay on battery power

5.. then you spin around twice and...........................

If you want the details call me I am a autocom dealer and give discounts to members of this forum........
