Canadian dollar is at a 2 year low. You can buy this fully farkled 2017 Vstrom 650 with about 15K on it for $5400 USD or so.
After sitting for a month, there is often a haggle factor come fall in Canada. Might still have one year's warranty left on it depending on the in service date. Check out Kijiji.ca for other cycle deals. Pretty sure Canada is the cheapest place to buy motorcycles.

While many are asking the moon and stars for their bike as they believe the market is still going bonkers I think you could probably buy the same bike in the US of A for around the same money. Being a 2017 its coming up on 6 years old and value dropping.

That is what they cost in MN too. Not a lot of demand for the little Strom's here. The big ones are hard enough to sell.
little Strom's
After sitting on my buddy's SV650, 'little' is not an adjective I'd use for any 'strom 😄

Oh, I always though they went for more in the US? Sometimes our currency gets out of whack faster than Mfgs can react. My recent Subaru purchase lists for 20% more in the US.

I just spent the last 4 days and 2600 miles on a 145hp 650lb fjr. Strom's are little;)

That is because Subaru here is a hipster cult. One of my son's is an affected party, owning one of those horrendous POC "fast" cars and paying double what an actually fast car would cost. God I hate working on those things.

I have two now. One old one with lots of miles and hard use (07 Forester XT, with JDM Forester STI steering, suspension, brakes and 325,000 KM) and a new Co-production with Toyota called a BRZ. 2850 pounds, RWD, 228 HP, Naturally aspirated 2.4L. It is about the most fun I have had in a car. I agree, they are tight to work on. Hopefully doing a full suspension refresh on the Forester getting ready for winter. There is no better car in deep snow in my opinion.
For the 1/2 the money, cheap parts and same performance, I will stick with an Audi Quattro. While we don't drive my wife's Cabrio in the winter, one of the guys on my ski racing team does

For even less money I will stick with my VWs, first cousin to the Audi.
While it appears the currency has shifted a lot it really has been up/down in relatively the same ballpark for quite a while. A few tenths of a percent looks like a bunch on the graph but it is still about the same rate before Covid. When we were last there in March of 2020 it was lower than it is now.

Cool, also into ski racing.... for old folks (Masters). Will be at Lake Louise for Ladies World Cup Downhill. Go RagMow!
I was on cycle trader the other day and looking for a 2017+ 650. Found the best deal down by Austin, TX.

So, head south old man it is for me.

I do enjoy combining travel with the purchase of a vehicle. So far I have bought one in Cincinnati, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Ottawa, Quebec City and 2 in Montreal. The Salt Lake City one was the best one of all and it was also the farthest . Pretty area too. My Wife's car was demolished recently and probably Montreal will be #3 .
What are the challenges/advantages of purchasing in Canada and bringing it to the US?

I'm close enough to the border that distance is less of a factor than the potential hassles of a cross-border transaction.
5 year warranty on the 650 I bought in 2018.Not sure if that still applies. I'd suspect with the exchange MSRP is less, therefore used should be correspondingly less too. MSRP on 650's is $7700 USD. It was $5300 when I bought my 17 in 2018.
