We spent the day chugging around on a few Yamaha bikes today, at Demo Days. Now which bike do you think got the lion's share of attention every time I turned around?

Quick question: Are you satisfied with the size of the Givi case on the rear or... not so much.

I like the 46L size very much... however, if I had it to do over again, I'd put a Trekker topcase on instead. More square, which means more efficient use of space, and I like the look better (plus it can hang off either the side racks, or the monokey topcase rack).

VERY nice 'Strom but, BKP... the assless chaps and leather vest have got to GO! :mrgreen::green_lol:
Uh yeah... that was the Harley contingent... not a bad bunch, even if they *don't* wave back on the road...

Barry, what kind of tank bag are you using, it looks like it attaches to the tank ring, a Givi maybe? How do you like it?

did you happen to ride that new triple FZ 09 ? That might be interesting.... I attended a Yamaha demo ride a few years back, it was fun, FJR, Vmax, even rode one of their gigantic cruisers, just to remind myself how it was to make more noise than power with a twist of the wrist. They had a guy leading our rides, and I couldn't help but drag floorboards on that thing at every corner, he kept looking back at me like I was doing something wrong.

Yeah, I like the look of the trekker case too. Don't get me wrong, I like my OEM/Trax case, it holds tons, but I think the trekker wins on looks.

Yep, you're right. Givi XS307 tank lock. Seems to be a good size for me (and it's expandable). Comes on and off easily, doesn't contact the tank at all, take it from bike to bike (just need the custom gas tank ring for the bike ~$15)... Just works well... Pricey, but IMHO it's a pay me now or pay me later thing...

This year, did the Bolt R-Spec and the Yami FZ-09... And, yep, they're always led -- one in front, one behind the group. However, they do make an attempt to let you get up into the higher gears. Every time I've demo'd a Yami cruiser (in the past I've done the Stryker, VMax, etc.), I manage to drag floorboards on what I consider relatively innocuous turns. I'll never get used to that.
Anyway... here's my thoughts on the Bolt and FZ-09:

Bolt: This is apparently competition for the HD Sportster bobber. And, I think can eat the Sportster's lunch. That being said, it's amazing that the Strom and Bolt are both V-twins (albeit the Bolt about 940cc, 5-speed, and belt driven), and the Strom can be so much smoother, and less buzzy. The Bolt's ergos are strange -- sort of a hybrid standard and cruiser. I found it uncomfortable. Lots and lots of torque, and relatively smooth shifter. The instrument panel was useless. Too dark, and the only number I could make out was the speedo... (maybe it was 50-something eyes... but I don't think so).

FZ09: If I had a 2nd bike *this* would be it. I owned the FZ series for quite a while, and the I-4 is just so incredibly smooth. So, it's saying a lot that Yamaha's new triple impressed the hell out of me. Constant pull from 1st gear up. Three mapping modes: Standard (for around town); B (for highway, a bit smoother and linear in all gears... more "relaxed"); and A (for spirited twisty... very high pull in the low and mid-range). I had the front end go slightly airborne once or twice in A mode, 1st and 2nd gear. The bike is light, shorter wheel base than it's predecessor, the FZ8, tightly designed, and you can flick it around like nothing. Can't imagine how much fun this would be in the mountains. 1st and 2nd gear a bit snatchy, but otherwise smooth throughout. It's a naked standard, so the buffeting got a bit heavy >60mph... needs at least a fly screen. Definitely needs an aftermarket seat. It's a replacement for the FZ8, so comes in around 850cc. Still no ABS, but at less than $8k list, you can overlook some things (Yamaha is late to the game with ABS on its FZ series). This is a Fun bike... capital "F." If I were Jay Leno, this would be my day trip, mountain road/canyon carver...
