I'd like to leverage the knowledge of the collective:

In a related post (excellent set of notes on DL650 valve adjustment) the author mentioned two recommended-to-have-on-hand items - 1) assembly lube (or molybdenum oil) and 2) 1211 Silicone Liquid Gasket. I am getting ready to start the 24000 km check,rad, TBS, plugs et al in prep for another little tour before winter sets in and wanted to ensure I didn't have to run out in the middle of things.

Local search of Crappy Tire and NAPA drew only blank stares. PartsSource did recommend using the Permatex Gold silicone-based gasket maker (in a tube) but were stumped by assembly lube - recommending that I use same motor oil as I use in the bike. I did this in the past on my 80's and 70's vintage GSs and wondering if the DL demands something different.

Also, couple of posts mentioned applying the gasket goop to the half moons. I'm assuming two things here - one , the half moons are the vertical, semi-circular shaped depressions on each end of the valve covers and 2) only apply it if it needs it, like a small tear or crack, or where the gasket bends 90 degrees?

the above may seem like a stupid question but this is the first bike I've had with silicon gaskets, my previous older machines were fiber based and I successfully reused the original gaskets when doing valve adjustments on each bike which both went over 130000 km without engine problems at all (may be while I am loyal to Suzuki I guess)

Appreciate any advice or direction.

Go to a good local "mom & pop" auto parts store. Any counter-man who doesn't have his head up his ass will know what assembly lube is. I was a little shocked to have to pay nearly $100 for the gaskets I needed for the valve adjustment proceedure. The old gaskets looked perfectly good to me. Its your call. I suppose you could re-use them, but I decided that I'd rather not have to do all the work again, should there be a leak. I put a thin smear of silicon sealant over all the "half-moon" surface of the gasket.

Plenty of references out there. Got any high performance automotive stores in your area? Or, print a couple of pages of the items and take it in to your local Reilly, Checker, Kragen, Schucks, Autozone and they are likely to have one product like these. In the old days of SuperShops, this was never a problem.

CRC Assy Lube part # SL3333 made by Sta-Lube, clean the old gasket and use Permatex ULTRA rubber gasket sealant and dressing part # 85409:confused:

Assembly lube

According to my manual (haven't done it yet) the shims are under the cam follower (bucket) so not introducing any new wear surfaces. Don't see much reason for the assembly lube, and the moly won't do your clutch any good, although the quantity may not be enough to cause real problems.

I was able to get both items referenced by Mortaine at another NAPA store when I found myself in Toronto yesterday with some time to kill although I had not seen the note until a few minutes ago.
