Going down to SF for work in October and am considering a bike rental for the weekend. I think someone on this board works for, or worked for Dubbelju. Would you recommend them as a place to rent?

Also, is there a decent (good selection) gear store in the Bay area with reasonable prices on riding boots?

Thanks for any and all advice.

+1 I rented a BMW GS 800 for a long weekend from them last year. Easy going fully supportive folks. They'll lend you gear if you don't have it. Heard they have V-Stroms now too.

good people and good bikes

I have rented F800GS and SV650 and G650GS from them, on three different occasions.

First class act.

Excellent service. Rented a BMW 1150 something or other from them a couple years ago. Next time I'm in SF, I'll be knocking on their door. I really appreciated them opening up for me specially on a Sunday to let me pick out a bike and help me out with planning riding routes. Even my wife was impressed.

I work there... on Saturdays... sporadically (off till July this year).

I'm told that the shop will be open on Sundays during the main riding season this year, which will be a huge convenience for us (since we won't have to retrieve bikes from other drop-off locations on Monday mornings) and of course for our customers. The downside is that our rates have gone up a bit since last year.

Yes, we have a V-Strom now. :)

As the OP's trip has apparently already taken place, I guess there's no need to mention any of the following, but here it is anyway:

Gear-wise, there aren't really very many low-cost options in SF itself besides the Cycle Gear at 11th & Harrison. Scuderia -- nearby at Duboce & Valencia -- has a fairly decent selection of boots (I got my Sidis there, but had to wait about a week for them). If you're feeling rich, check out the Dainese Store on South Van Ness.

My favorite moto shop in the Bay Area, though not very close to SF, is California Sport Touring in Hercules.
