I have a week of PTO that came up fast and I didn't have a chance to fully bake out any plans. I'm based out of Kenosha WI, but I'd love to ride out anywhere in the Midwest.

Wish I was free. I’m not to far from you over near Beloit and I try to get away on the bike camping a couple of times a summer.

I ended up riding to the UP from SE Wisconsin. What a cool place! Will definitely be returning more times this summer. I was pretty struck by how rural the UP is compared to places I've been out west even. I camped at the 'Mouth of the Huron River' and had fun getting the Strom down a few miles of sandy gravel roads to get all the way up to the shore of Lake Superior. Camping was rough though as it was colder and windier than I expected. Under my tarp I ended up having to start a fire at 3 AM to stay warm!

I think the Strom is very very very thirsty if you cruise at over 70mph. I was averaging about 35mpg when I was on I43, but thankfully bouncing around the backroads around 60mph the Strom still gets about 45 MPG.

I had an interesting experience at a gas station near Amasa, Michigan where I met a fellow Stromtrooper that was UTVing up there. We talked for about 20 minutes about how great VStroms are and he told me a few stories about him and his Strom.

Cool trip, but really wish we would warm up here soon as it was still a chilly trip!

Sounds like a good trip. Yes my “14” Vstrom really drops mileage at 70 or above especially with bags and gear. We did a trip around Lake Michigan a couple of years ago. Great time except for the very last bit getting through Chicago. I have been looking at doing the Trans Wisconsin Adventure possibly next summer up the west side of the State. I have heard it is a lot of fun. Some off road but not too technical.
Wish I could have joined you from Madison (though I think my ground camping days may be behind me). I love riding in the UP, but probably wont get up there this year due to other commitments. My favorite spots are H-58 from Munising to Grand Marais, and the town of Grand Marais, MI, itself.

I'll have to give that ride a try later this summer!
