I may be going around there within the next week or two to visit a friend, if she's not able to come here, and the closer it gets the more it looks like I'll be going there. I've never even been close to the area but I hear there's lots of great riding so I'm considering bringing the bike. If I do decide to bring it I was hoping to maybe get some tips on good places to ride, or maybe even a "tour guide". Also, if I do bring it we would need to get some gear for her to wear so she can be safe too so suggestions to particular shops would be helpful. Then there the other debate, do I bring the Honda (CB750) or the Wee, haven't yet figured that one out.

So anyway, if you have any advice for me I'd really appreciate it, thanks.

I live about 25 miles to the southwest of Asheville.

Take the DL leave the CB.

For gear, probably the largest selection is at MR cycles on Hendersonville Road (hwy 25) in South Asheville.

If I have the time there's nothing I like better than guiding bike tours for out-of-towners, although your friend probably knows a lot of scenic local roads.

Look for the Blue Ridge Parkway, hwys 74, 215, 276, 151 and 178. One road to avoid is hwy 64 between Brevard and Highlands.

Send me a PM when your plans firm up.

I live in Raleigh which is a good ways from Asheville, but I'm always looking for a reason to ride.

My fiance and I are both from southern LA as well. Hope you have a good trip!

Thanks for the info Nroman, it'll definitely help if I make up there. I was leaning toward the DL anyway since I figured that there's a lot more than just paved roads there and I'm not sure how the CB handles offroad, never took it there.

So here's the deal, as far as her knowing the roads, she's not from there herself, she had problems at home, people she needed to get away from, so she's been staying there for the last month or two with her aunt and she hasn't really gotten out of the house much so to have someone to show us around would be great. All I knew was that she was "about 20 minutes away from Asheville" but today I found out that she's actually in Mills River, does that help?

seawolf, what parts are you from, you been away long?

I can see Mills River from my house. It's also in Henderson County.

If you want to hit some unpaved gravel roads, two of my favorites start in Mills River and take you up to the Parkway.

There are a few others, most notably RidgeRunner, who can be easily talked into a ride, too.

Just send me a PM with your plans, and I'll try to carve out some time.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the hospitality-from-far-away but it doesn't look like it's going to happen, not going to be making it there this time, things just didn't work out like I thought they would so my trip has been canceled. :var_52:

Thanks man, will do. Since the seed is now planted in my head I do plan to go there when I can better afford it, maybe when spring time rolls around, that should give me enough time to get "back on my feet". Since I first heard of the place it's somewhere I've been wanting to go but just never had the time or a reason to go, now money is the issue, even with a free place to stay the trip is just slightly out of my budget right now. :(
