Strom to Sturgis 08

Glad to hear you are coming. Let me know if others of you are Stromming to Sturgis this year. I live 20 miles from Sturgis. I'd be interested in organizing a Strom ride or Strom get-together in my neighborhood. Let me know if folks are interested.

Only 2 of us on Stroms (my 650 and my buddy's 1000). We are supposably going to stay in a friends yard. I can only get away for the weekend, but should be fun. There is also a POW/MIA ride in Grandy CO on 15th Aug that we are going to be at. Thanks. Bill

Don't have a Strom yet. Still looking. But plan to go. Several friends are going, they all ride various bikes. But when I was there many years ago, it was a Harley thing. If I don't score a strom by then, I will be on the Kz

Here's the best website for information and lodging info: http://www.sturgismotorcyclerally.com/
I'd offer my yard for tenting, but it is too sloped. There will be an estimated 500,000 visitors. I'll help if I can. Check out that website and feel free to ask me about different campsites and locations. If you need a place for repairs or maintenance you are welcomed to my garage and tools. Again, let me know if there is interest in an organized Strom ride or a BBQ.

Blade, I will be in the area sometime around July 16th or 17th after a tour of Colorado and Wyoming. My wife is flying home from the Rapid City airport. Any suggestions on a nice day ride would be great.

Also, Bill G. if you have suggestions on touring Colorado it would be appreciated. I'll p/u my wife at the Denver airport and I am looking at hitting such spots as Independence Pass, Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Gunnison, Crested Butte, Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Then heading north thru Steamboat Springs into Wyoming.

Thanks.

CO seems easy. just get out a map and go. I'll see what I can do over another mug of coffee. I've only had the time over the last 3 yrs to cruize my local areas, from Breckenridge to the Springs, all over the Peak-to-Peak Hwy to Estes Park, Idaho Sprigns, Mt Evans Hwy, Rollingsville Pass and back down to Boulder. 9 times out of 10, I just have a few hours to get in the wind, so I'll just head west up Boulder Canyon or to Golden(yesterday was V-1000 parked in Golden along with a myriad of other scoots; also another red 650 in Layfette Friday) and cruize my old standard Peak-to-Peak to either Left-Hand Canyon or Estes Park. Never gets old. No less than a billion people there yesterday (fishing, rock climbing, muchos bikes, bicycles, convertibles,... it gets pretty crowded on nice weekends- Nederland seems to be a magnet for bikers). Planning on doing some day trips this summer, nothing seriously planned other than the tag-along to Sturgis and the POW/MIA ride to Grandby. I'm also going on a couple scouting rides for elk/deer with the Strom when the high country gets a little warmer. I'll get with my neighbor who recently did a Durango trip and get the details. I believe it was only 3 days or 4 days long. I usually can't sneak away from the family that long and have too many hobbies myself and not enough time. Bill

I've been the last couple of years. My brother comes up from DFW with his cruiser buddies and I meet them there and hang out for a day or so. Thats all I can take. Riding in a staggered trail formation with a group of cruisers at half normal speed amongst other groups of cruisers all of whom are better lubricated than thier bikes is dangerous at best but its always good to catch up with my brother. I don't think he's planning on going this year and I was thinking of going up for lunch and a t-shirt then riding back the same day. Maybe turn it into an IBA SS1000...

If your going for the party and to hang out with buds you will have a good time. If you are going to ride it is very frustrating. The Black Hills are not meant to be ridden at 15mph and the noise and drunks on bikes aren't my favorite either :rolleyes1:

I went twice. Once during the rally and once a couple weeks before. I had a better time a couple weeks before. Camped at a nice State Park in the Black Hills.

Moosedog,
Many to choose from. Three good ones to pick from would be Badlands NP, Custer State Park with Needles Hwy and Iron Mtn Road, and Spearfish Canyon. Let me know if I can lay out some routes for you.

Vstromper, I was also thinking of making it a 1 or 2 day'er and leave on Monday or so. How long does it take to get there from Denver? I have similar thoughts about the ride, but I've never been and thought I'd give it a try.

I'm about 600 miles east of there.

While everyone else rides west, I head east.

I can't think of one reason, let alone a good one, for me to go.

Just my feeling.

Black Hills

Hello Steve,

The Sturgis Rally is a busy time, but it is an amazing biking atmosphere. There are actually lots of great people that attend.

I can't think of one good reason, but I can think of dozens of good reasons to come. Come sometime when the Rally is not on and the roads aren't so congested. You will find dozens of great rides in the Black Hills and Badlands. Let me know if you do and we'll go for a ride.
