I haven't found one yet. There are BMW clubs. There are Orange Co guys that show up at Newcombs Ranch on Sundays and during the week, Thurs lunch. Mixed bunch that goes camping and touring.
Strom guys are too independent to form a bike specific association?
Depending on North OC you may head for the San Gabriel Mts or So County you might do Hwy 74 over the hill to Palomar and San Diego back country.

There is a meet up group called Fast Far...but I can't remember the whole title. They are riding to Alaska and I believe stopping in at the Cache rally on their way..

Oh, there are tons of ADV bikes in So Cal. Have out checked the other Stom forums or ADVRider forum?
There is always making an offer to have folks joining you for a ride. Post a date and time and hope for the best.
There are other groups too, like the District 37 Off road folks. Prospectors MC club. Lots of dirt there.

yea. Seems to be a blending of dual sport and adventure categories. All Ive found groups for smaller off road street legal dirt bikes running very rough trails and desert sand. Im looking for big bike adventure riders for unpaved, 2 track but not rough and tumble dirt paths. Ive been a member of the strom and ADV forums for a while and asked the questions there as well. Still not much I can find.

rkruz, I'm in San Diego and while I'm pretty much a commuter, I do like to get out for a pleasure ride now and again. I've returned to riding after a couple of decades and haven't taken the bike off the pavement yet, but am interested in learning, perhaps in small, manageable steps. I have enjoyed riding roads like De Luz, Highland Valley, Wildcat Canyon, and the 79 and 94 ...

I'm in Inland Empire, lemme know, we can gather a bunch of us SoCal Peeps up and go somewhere. Start our own club. You can be president. I'll be the guy who comes up with cool ideas but has no actual responsibility for anything. But I'll show up and ride.

I take it you didn't just win the Powerball ... I heard it was bought in Murrieta. If you had, I figure you'd already be buying a new Vstrom to add to the stable? ;-) I'll sign up to be the ice-president ... someone has to be responsible for the ice!

Hi Brendon and Mike: LOL. No responsibility for anything sound perfect!
I have a few days finishing up a backyard project and Ill offer up a meet down your way. Ive ridden to Palomar and Julian before and can modify for a first ride. Do you ride during the week?
As background I retired this year to OC after splitting job time between Dallas TX and OC as an engineer working for Boeing. Married, 2 grown kids. Had a DL1000 in TX and CA and had both here in CA for a few months and just sold the TX bike. I put on about 20K miles in and around TX attempting to get away from population ride all the gravel, dirt, country, farm to market and forrest service roads and could find. Had a fantastic time especially when I was able to find like minded riding partners. Tougher to get away in SoCal but Im going to try. Ill PM my phone number. Feel free to text or cal. Talk to you soon. Robert

Keep us posted when youse guys set a ride date. I'd tag along if possible but need advance time to take care of Wife.

The Cache rally just happened in Utah. An electrical gremlin put me off of attending, Dang!

I'm in Mission Viejo and am interested in an occasional outing. I'm retired but with responsibilities. With a little notice I can probably juggle things around. Been out to Big Bear, Joshua Tree, Salton Sea, Palomar Mt., points in between, etc.

Hi Robert,
As it turns out, I'm just back from a four year long adventure / sabbatical on a sailboat, so now I'm working full time again, making rides during the week difficult for me. Weekends are about the only opportunity. Since I appear to be the Southernmost fellow, I have no problem driving North to meet up with folks.

Backyard project eh? Hope my wife doesn't read this forum, she's got some backyard projects in mind that I seem to be able to find excuses for not doing. ;-)

I'll also PM my cell number.

I am planning a solo trip up to the western sierras and then out to the coast in late July. I plan on tents and hotels but I swing easily from one to the other if confronted with strong opposition. I'm sure I will be 95% plus on asphalt. There are graded dirt roads that could be avoided in the Sierra loops but prior ride reports indicate that only Harley guys would need to turn back.

Leaving very early on Saturday, to avoid the heat in the lowlands, the routes are the Sierra Scenic Vista Byway and the Sierra Scenic Heritage Byway on day 2. Then after sleeping a couple nights in a tent I was looking at grabbing a cheap casino type room in Carson City for the 3rd night before continuing on up to Lassen NP and a little shot out Hwy 36 to the coast on day 4-5. Then turning around and working my way home avoiding the central valley heat the best I can. With the 1 closed at Big Sur I may actually just reverse my route back from Fortuna all the way home, only trading Sequoia NP for the Byways. This all negotiable, by the way.

If you want to get out and see a little of our home state with me, I would welcome a companion or 2 to split costs and get a fresh audience for my tall tails and other lies.

Hi Mike, that sounds like a pretty good adventure. Unfortunately for me, I started a new job this year after my sabbatical, and so I'm only earning a couple weeks vacation a year - so I'd not be able to do 4-5 days. Next year I'll have a little more time saved up. In the meantime, I have to keep to SoCal ...

I can't get away easily either. A Sierra trip sounds cool. I want to go to Bridgeport and take all the side roads as I work my way back South.
Check out all the stuff I zoom by every dang time I pass through on 395.
