I did a search on this, but didn't come up with too many views. If anyone else is using this as opposed to the Power Commander, could you enlighten a fellow Stromer as to how it performs for you? I'm mainly trying to smooth out the 2500-3500 range when having to poke around (traffic, parking lots, sandy/loose roads). I've had the service pros :roll: enrichen the low end (to some improvement), but I'm thinking it'd be favorable to tweak as I see needed, since you don't get a good impression piddling around by the dealership. I'm not looking to unleash the inner SV; just be able to increase control.

Also, how does it affect your mpg (if your riding habits haven't changed)?

DL ayed, I have been in touch with Dale Walker of Holeshot fame. He has tuned quite a few DL's and recently purchased a new DL 1000 for himself. He has done considerable work with Tech Lusion and on his dyno. From the look of the run sheets, he may have found a fix for the mid RPM delivery curve. He is sending me the TFI unit, the settings and his mid pipe and slip on's, so I will know soon. Dealing with someone like Dale is certainly reassuring.

I would buy the DFO over a PCIII ANYDAY!!!!!

The DFO doesn't change the fuel map, it just delivers more fuel where you want it. It is a simple install, and I heard they work great. That is probably my next purchase! :wink:

TFI Box New

Hi guys

Well i finally found this site...Ha


I have been working on my new 2006 DL-1000 over the last few weeks. As you know they run a bit ragged in the mid range in stock form and even worse when slip-ons are added.

I have been testing the Dobeck TFI box and made up a new plug in kit working with the company. I picked up 6+ hp in the lower rpm range and 3 to 4 most every where else and really smoothed it out very nice. I spent over 6 hours on my dyno getting the A/F where i want it for steady cruise, light load and wide open throttle.

My tuning was done to match my own Holeshot Performace DL-1000 slip-ons but it should be very close and a good base setting for most others as well.


I will be handling the now new plug in DL-1000 TFI box and also have install tip photos i can e mail you. These will be on my site soon as well. I will also give you my base settings that should be very close.


My bike got poor fuel mileage totally stock also

With my 95- lb wife on the back and me at only about 170 -lbs, taking it easy i was at about 32 mpg best out on the road.


With my slip-ons installed and my TFI box tune up im now up to 39+ mpg and this was with my 145-lb son on the back gassing it up a bit over the mountain pass , around town and freeway riding.


Last weekend i tested the bike solo riding it to Yosemite 44 mpg and nearly 47 mpg on another tank and it now runs just out standing.


I must say i think the DL-1000 V-Strom set up and running properly is one of my all time favorite motor bikes.

Good work "again" Dale.....we are glad that you are here! :D You can bet that I will be giving you some business in the near future, for the TFI box.
I have mine tuned up pretty darn good, I run Leo Vince exhaust's "SORRY" :lol: ...and I have a remapped FI system. The Strom is a GREAT bike isn't it!!!!!!

Yes i love this bike and trust me , set up right its very capable of giving sport guys fits in any tight road, while being in comfort doing it.....Ha

Well so far the 650s have run great with my slip-on installed un touched. They dont seem to have the poor running that the 1000 does as far as the fueling issues. But there is most likely always room for improvment

If i get a local customer that wants a slip-on and a tune up to match , i will do just that , work with Dobeck on a plug in type TFI box. Then match my own tune up so all of you will have a very close base setting.

On my DL- 1000 i was able to nail a 13:1 to 13:8 A/F ratio under all conditions, steady cruise, light load and wide open to red line. It took me all day but now i have it and my bike is smooth as silk compared to stock and the mpg really picked up.

My goal is always to do all the work and testing so my customer will have a nice set up with my slip-ons installed and make it as easy as possible.


Dobeck did not have The TFI Box for the DL-1000 until i took on the project a few weeks ago. I provided photos of the injector plugs as well as the harness length needed to fit properly.


If any of you would like to see my before and after dyno charts let me know by e mail. I could e mail it and you could post it on here.

Why would you rather have a DFO than a PCIII ?? How can a DFO adjust fuel without messing with the map?

Dale would probably be better at answering this than me! :wink: But, I'll give ya my 2 cents.....all I want to do is add a little more fuel, where I want it, instead of a whole new fuel map. PCIII's from what I hear, can give you good performance results, but bad fuel economy. DFO's are as simple as turning a "pot" adjustment, and watching the leds. Add as little or as much fuel as you like. I have no interest in messing with a laptop, or playing around with the mapping. I am a firm believer, that the stock FI maps in bikes are good. The manufacturers are forced to "choke" the map with the strict emissions standards. There are "4" adjustment screws, each has its own purpose, but the system very simply works allot like a carb with a good jet kit! This system is cheaper, smaller and allot easier to use and adjust on the fly!

Hopefully, the info that I gave was accurate.

Brian did a good job at answering your questions.

I will chime in

I do mapping also using Power Commanders , but most of the time a totally new map is not needed.


Maybe with race motors, higher compression and big cams the PC-3 would be better ? , but not on most stock or lighty modded bikes that are only slightly lean.

I spent hours on my dyno with my DL-1000 and my slip-ons only so i will have a very close base settings for my own customers. But a dyno is not totally needed either with the TFI box.

Unlike a PC-3 the product cost more and custom mapping can run $250 to $300.


Im all for keeping it simple and at a lower cost if i can get the results. Im impressed with the TFI set up properly.
