So, looking at the bike rental....it's $200 euro a day....ouch. The rental car on the other hand is $30 a day which is cheaper than it is here at home.

Anyone ever considered doing a bike swap? Fly to another country and borrow a bike for a few days. If I can sort out the insurance I have a 'strom that I would loan out here if I could do the same in Ireland. Just a thought..............

I mentioned it before, but I wouldn't press t0o hard to ride over there, a car just makes more sense given the roads and the weather, and being in sightseeing/tourist mode.

Some of the other things we did:

3 nights in Galway, that was fun. Stayed at The Western hotel. When we got there they offered us a 2-bedroom apartment across the street for the same price, so we kinda looked at each other and went sure... turned out to be a gorgeous 1000+ sqft apartment with great views of the bay and the whole downtown area, and a washer/dryer* to boot. Couldn't believe how lucky we got on that.
Did a day trip out to the Aran islands, highly recommend that.
One night in the lobby of the Western there was a large Irish music jam session, that was a blast. Plenty of other great spots for music, of course

Left Galway and headed to Dingle, 3 nights there. Hit the Cliffs of Mohr on the way, another must-see.
Really liked Dingle, the drive out and around the Dingle peninsula is spectacular, I thought better than the more well-known Ring of Kerry, which we did as a day trip while in Dingle. The Kerry cliffs are worth a visit.

Went to Cork after that, stopping at the memorial at the site of Michael Collins' assassination, and at the Desmond castle in Kinsale. :)

3 nights in Cork, unfortunately Ashley picked up a stomach bug and was sick the first full day, and then I got it the second, so we really didn't get to explore much. What we saw we liked though, and got to hear some more good music.

Then a night in a castle in the middle of the country, stopping at the Rock of Cashel (another worthwhile stop) and then back to Dublin for 2 nights.

Our basic plan was to pick places to stay for 2-3 days, staying in the centers of town as much as possible. Day trips during the day, wandering around exploring and getting out of the tourist zone in the evenings. Didn't want to be going from hotel to hotel every day. Stayed in some really nice hotels and also in some funky "interesting" B&Bs.
Great trip, we're already planning the return.

*About that washer and dryer. I'd never seen anything like it. It was tiny, maybe a 1/4-1/3 the size of a "normal" washer/dryer, and it was a combined unit. Washing and drying in the same drum. Took forever, as in 3-4 hours, and the clothes were still damp. And since I'm not real bright, when I put my clothes back in to finish drying I accidently started from the beginning. Ended up taking a lot of our stuff to the laundry service across the street.

Ha, sounds like a RV/motorhome all in one unit made in Germany. We had one and you could wash/dry two shirts an two pair of pants at a time...that's it.

Your trip is exactly what we are doing, B&B, Airbnb, throw in a castle or two, hit the pubs in the small towns, see our own "sights" on our terms. I hear ys on the car vs motor thing, but being there and not riding at least a couple of days might send me into defib. Thanks for the info!

Greetings all,

New weestrom owner based on the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland.
Recent postings feel more like an advert for Tourism Ireland than a who's who of Strom owners in Ireland.

Whatever, glad to share when I can.

Mike
