Hi everyone,
I have just taken delivery of my sparkle black 800RE/SE and I am looking for anyone who might have experience with either the GV AF3125 airstream or the MRA COL71283 Vario touring windshields, as I find the stock windshield on the RE/SE version to be just right to give me full wind and noise on my helmet😂

For reference I’m 5’10” with a 29” inseam so have a tall torso and sit high like someone who might be 6’1” or 6’2”.
thanks in advance.

BTW as I’m new here’s a pic on its first day out.

I've had 4 screens on my 800 thus far; stock, OEM Tall Screen, Givi AF3125, and now a CalSci large. I'm 6'3" so your mileage may vary.

The Suzuki tall screen was barely better than the stock screen. I just got a face full of wind. And since I use a modular helment, the noise is excessing and annoying.

As soon as I could get my hands on a Give AF3125, I snatched one up. I expected great results because I was so pleased with the way the AirFlow I mounted on my '18 650XT. I assumed it would be equally as effective at blocking wind and eliminating buffeting on the 800. Sadly, for me, it did not. The design of the 3125 (which was different than the one for the 650) creates turbulence behind the screen. I tried adjusting the height, the mounting angle, and even bought a new helmet. Nothing did the trick.

Then a week ago I picked up a CalSci large screen. Finally I can ride the highway and hear the engine rather than wind batting my helment around. The only downsize is it's ridiculously huge. It's a touring screen. I will carry the Suzuki tall screen with me if I'm road tripping to a BDR or some other off road destination. I wouldn't want to ride uneven terrain and stand on the pegs with this thing mounted.

I ordered a Cal Sci large today for the 800, I think they have one that is a little shorter also. I had ordered a xl for my Moto Guzzi V85 and they let me return it no questions asked. It didn't control the air down low as well as the Puig and I was looking thru the top of the screen

A bit of an update and personal experience - 800RE version, so a taller screen than the DE.

I got a cheap from Amazon "Vario" style clip on wind deflector and installed it. The results were surprisingly good. [For reference, I'm 5'10" with a 29" inside leg, so a tall torso and would be 6'1 or 6'2 with proper legs ;).]

Using the cheap & cheerful at full height and acting like an extension of the OEM screen, I could just about see the road over it. The result was only some wind at the very top of my helmet and no buffeting. I got some airflow over my shoulders which was nice as it was sunny and warm. If I tried to position it and use it as a "second screen" in front of the normal screen (same angle, trying to create a laminar flow like the Givi Airstream), it didn't seem to work as well. I went cruising the highway (we call them motorways!) at 60-70-80mph. Pretty effective and less fatigue, I could hear the engine more than just the rush (I'm using earplugs, of course).

Downside was that it vibrated a fair bit, but that is to be expected given it was half the thickness and 1/10th of the price. I am seriously considering the MRA touring windscreen with the variable spoiler. But for the equivalent of USD15, this is a win and I'll be keeping it on until the MRA turns up in late July!

Here's Woodstock in Oxfordshire, I parked up and had a latte on the tables outside the cafe on the right, so didn't even need to lock up the bike! You can see the cheapy deflector on the screen if you look closely 😊

I will be taking delivery of my dl800re next week, but I have already a new windshield deflector for it - Universal Motorcycle Windshield Extension Adjustable Spoiler Clamp-On Windscreen Deflector For BMW KAWASAKI YAMAHA HONDA SUZUKI https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNNuA9W
This will be a fourth bike I am installing this deflector on (CB500X, R1200GS, R1200RS), in all cases very happy with it. I am always buying the smaller version of it with the drill on setup as the attachment hardware is lighter than the metal clamps. Adjustable, solid and fraction of price of any windshield.

I am 6' tall and bought a used Suzuki tall screen off ebay and ordered a Chinese adjustable rail off ebay that allows the tall screen to adjust up and down with a quick turn of a allen wrench as needed.
I have the 24 800 DE and have put on 2400 miles in the last 3-4 weeks and am now happy. I use a adventure full screen helmet and like the results. Off road I can adjust down if I want. Works for me.

How hard are these adjustable rails to adjust on the fly? Does the windscreen need to come off? So far I'm okay with the stock windscreen on my 800 (not DE), but was planning to get the Givi Airflow which I have on my 2017 SV650 (universal version). If it's easy to adjust on the fly, then I might consider one of these rather than the Givi.

How tall are you and your inseam? The Puig I got was awful with buffeting. Just constant wind in your face/helmet.

5'11", 29" inseam but I tend to slouch some as I ride. I was going to order a Puig. I am a Western Powersports dealer and they had the National Cycle in stock. I'm pretty satisfied with it. I can look over the top, not sure I could have with the tallest one.

Awesome thanks for the info. If you ever get the chance, some pics of it on your bike will be appreciated!

Madstad make adjustable windscreen kits for many motorcycles. They are based in Florida and looking for a donor DL800 to develop a windscreen system. Should be easy given the OEM windscreen attachment. Had one on a Triumph Tiger 1050, not the prettiest screen but by far the most effective after trying several others.

By the way, if anyone wants a Givi AF3125 for the 800, I'm selling the one I bought. It has less than 100 miles on it and in near perfect condition. I have a box, wrapping, bubble wrap. Shoot me a DM with your location and I'll work on a delivered price.

I'm 6' 2" (188 cm) with long back, 34" inseam. I've now tried followind screens on my V-Strom 800 DE, with standard height saddle.

Standard 800 DE screen, mounted on lovest or middle holes, is useful. Does not provide almost any wind protection at all, helmet visor is covered by flies just after 50 kms ride. However, for a long rider it allows quite free airflow to helmet, without notable turbulence. Useful screen for off road riding and for hot weather. I also tried PUIG screen extension and MRA Vario adjustable spoiler on the screen, but both cause quite bad turbulence on helmet.

Standard 800 RE touring screen. Provides much more wind protection for the upper body, since it's wider and taller than DE screen. When mounted in the lowest holes does not cause so bad turbulence on helmet for the rider of my height. It is somewhat usable, but the downsize is that it blows most of the airflow direct on my neck, which feels a bit uncomfortable on highway speed. I also tried Puig screen extension and MRA Vario adjustable spoiler on the screen, but both cause quite bad turbulence on helmet.

Puig Touring screen. Wide and quite tall. Gives good wind protection on body, but causes quite bad turbulence on helmet. I also tried PUIG screen extension and MRA Vario adjustable spoiler on the screen. Puig extension does not help, but MRA Vario spoiler helps a bit against the turbulence. Puig Screen can also be bougth with adjustable Puig spoiler (just like the MRA spoiler I tried). I quess it could be quite good touring screen for shorter riders, up to 180 cm tall, offering good wind protection for upper body and not causing so bad turbulence on helmet (for shorter riders).

Tallest National Cycle VStream. VStreams have been great on my previous bikes, R1250GS and CRF1000L, but surpricingly it does not work on V-Strom 800. It's not so wide than Puig Touring or 800 RE screens, so it does not protect upper body so good. Without spoiler causes quite bad turbulence on helmet. Screen is good quality and very expensive here in Finland, and was therefore a huge dissappointment. I also tried PUIG screen extension and MRA Vario adjustable spoiler on the screen, but neither helped so much. Finally I placed about 5 mm spacers under the lower mounting points, also adjusted the screen to the lower angle, which also let a bit more air behind the screen. That helped and with the MRA Vario adjustable spoiler is the best touring screen solution for the rider of my height, from the four options I tried. It's far away from perfect, but is tolerable and the best of the options I tried.

I'll keep the standar DE screen for the off road and hot weather use, RE screen for the cold weather use on local rides and VStream with MRA spoiler for long tours. Its not perfet, but it's least bad. I would still like to try Givi Airflow, but wouldn't like to buy it, since I've allready spent about 500 EUR for screens and spoilers.

For the feel, finnish and quality, both OEM Suzuki screens and VStream are equally good, Puig screen is clearly cheaper made.

I have an update on my experience with the Givi Airflow and the CalSci Large on the 800 Touring.

I first installed the Givi with an additional puig deflector on top, and in the lowest position it was suitable for all speeds except 80mph plus.

Out of curiosity I order an installed the large CalSci windscreen. It definitely provided even more protection, but after a week of doing 85mph for 42 miles each way, the screen cracked.

Obviously I was not pleased. I reinstalled the Givi and I'm sticking with it.

Edit: Also, my fuel economy noticeably deteriorated with the CalSci. It's extremely good at blocking wind, but does so with all the finesse of a large brick wall being pushed along.

I installed a Givi Airflow. Even with the front screen at it's lowest position it was too high for me (5'9", 31" inseam). I cut about 1.5" off the front screen. It's perfect for me now in it's lowest position and there's lots of up adjustment if needed for some reason. The Airflow is a keeper for me. Little to no turbulence. Some wind noise but my earplugs take care of that.

Yesterday was nice, calm day so I made a little bit more testing. I now have the tallest VStream screen on, with MRA Vario spoiler on it. It helped a little for buffeting when I put about 10 mm spacers under the lower mounting points.

However, I noticed that most of the turbulence and buffeting to the helmet come beside the dash fairing, under the screen. I think National Cycle has failed miserably on the design of their screens. Screen should be wider and longer on the lower end, just like Suzuki RE touring screen and Puig touring screen. Dash/headlight fairing is so narrow and does not prevent turbulence heading straight to the helmet. Even if the VStream screen is so big, it actually does not give so much protection against the airflow, since there comes so much airflow and turbulence straight to the upper arms and body under the screen, beside the dash fairing.

Even if the VStream + MRA Vario spoiler combination is the best I've found so far, I'm not happy yet. I'm suffering quite bad tinnitus, so for longer tours I would like to find better solution, with less turbulence and more silent. For local rides and off roading the standard DE screen is good enough, allthough it does not give any weather protection at all, also not so good for long touring.

Has anyone tried Powerbronze wind deflectors or their Chines copy? I consider making my own.... price incl. fraight from England, duty and VAT is ridiculously high. Chinese copies are not for me.

There are now also two types of rally fairings available for V-Strom 800.

They are not touring screens, but could give turbulence free airflow on helmet, just like DE standard screen gives for tall riders.

I’ve developed tinnitus as well. It’s driving me crazy. The wind turbulence sucks the joy out of taking long rides. I’m leaving for Maine next week and I’m desperately trying to find a solution.

I just now noticed, that Suzuki offers two different tall screens available for 800 DE.

Part #94600-25820 is 80 mm taller than DE standard screen. It looks like same than RE standard screen. On Suzuki site it says, that it only goes for 800 DE and 800 RE owners are told to get #94600-25850 instead, that is 38 mm taller than RE standard screen.

Mine is the lower of them two, but I don't believe the higher would work any better.
