I just thought I'd let everyone know that I recently bought a Givi windshield and I'm very happy with it. Buffeting is now completely gone.

I originally bought the Madstad bracket about 2 months ago and with the stock windshield it reduced most of the buffeting. But I just couldn't find a position where the bracket solved the problem completely. So I started looking at alternative windshields. I narrowed my list down to the Givi, MRA Vario Touring and the Windstrom Manta. After reading many posts in these forums I decided to go for the Givi as most people are happy with the Givi and it was the cheapest.

I placed an order from Adventure Moto Stuff and I was surprised when it arrived in my office just a little over a week after placing the order. That's good considering I'm on the other side of the world (in Sydney, Australia) and it was sent via USPS. It's also the new Givi screen which doesn't have the black edging and has a slightly different shape.

It took less than 5 minutes to take off the old screen and screw on the new one. Unfortunately, the first ride after fitting the new screen was not the best weather. It was blowing a gale (gusts up to 80 knots) and I was almost blown into another lane while crossing the Anzac Bridge in Sydney. There was a serious cross wind and at first I thought the new screen might be to blame, but then I saw other motorcyclists also struggling with the wind.

The next day I had a chance to try the screen without the wind blowing. After some minor adjustments with the Madstad I think I've found a good position and there is absolutely no buffeting. I've got the Madstad mounted in the middle position and the screen is about a third of the way from the bottom and almost raked fully back. I still have clear vision over the top of the screen (I'm 6'0").

So I'm happy with both the screen and the excellent service from amotostuff.com If you're in Australia and looking to get a Givi, don't bother with the local distributors. They gave me a 6 week time for their stock to arrive (I don't know where from). Instead I ordered from US and even with the pricey shipping it turns out to be about the same price, especially if you have other items on your order.

Great review lighting. I hear you loud and clear about Aussie distributors, really poor stocking of anything DL650 related and although the US sites such as AMS have lisitings for DL650 versions the supposed Aussie distributors dont even see fit to update thier websites to show them DL on them.

I have had my bike about a month now (had suzi centre stand, Givi crash bars and Ventura rack & Bag delivered with bike), and have been shopping for more stuff since, aaaarrrggghhh! How frustrating to see all our American and European brothers and sisters with these accessory manufacturers on thier doorstep and we have zip.

So.... I have ordered the following from overseas

Hyperlites - still waiting on delivery (11 days so far)
Sampson Sport Touring Beads (both seats) - ordered yesterday
Cramp buster (only cause Sampson can send it with the beads for zip)
Fenda Extenda - AMS - Ordered today
Ventura light gaurds - AMS - ordered today
Dan C Skid Plate - Ordering tonight
Dan C Radiator/Oil cooler guard - ordering tonight
Dan C Luggage guard - ordering tonight

I will most likely be going for the madstad sometime soon and as I live in WA will check out Eagle Screens in Perth next time I'm down there to see what they offer.

One Aussie maufacturer I did consder but was a little hesitant to fork out the quids just yet was www.sheepyhollow.com they have a very good website and make each cover to order, and yes....they list the DL650.
I have read some very good feedback on them and was very tempted but thought I would give the beads a go (much cheaper option first up)

Aussie Distributors

Hi pilbaralad,

I think I've just about given up on Aussie distributors. They just don't seem to have their act together. I've found that AMC in Queensland ( http://www.amcmotorcycles.com ) do stock some DL650/1000 parts but their web site doesn't list them and their responses to emails are apalling.

They are the Australian distributor for Fenda Extenda. In September I emailed them 3 times before I finally got a response telling me they were getting stock in a few weeks. I called them back about a month later and they did have stock so I ordered one over the phone. However, they don't seem to update their web site. This is a real pity because I think they would make more sales if they listed what they had available. On this Aussie SV650 forum there are dozens of similar gripes about AMC regarding lack of stock.

I always check to make sure they have stock before ordering because some times it can take weeks or months for them to get an order in from the manufacturer.

I've recently had a number of great experiences buying stuff from Adventure Moto Stuff and Twisted Throttle and I think they will continue to get my business with the excellent service and shipping so far. I guess there is a bigger market in the US so they can afford to keep good levels of stock on hand. Shipping can be pricey but I find the overall price to be about the same.

For example, I can order a Wolfman Explorer tank bag from AMS for US$143 plus about US$40 for postage. With the exchange rate this converts to about A$250. To buy it from the Australian distributor (Motohansa) it is A$312. I know where I'll be spending my money.

I notice you have black loped clamping knobs on one side of your Madstad bracket. Where did you track these down? I think it would be possible to get loped knobs with a centre threaded hole all the way through, meaning you could have knobs on both sides of the bracket.

Also the Givi doesn't have the black trim, is that now gone for the new shields?

I purchased a Givi screen recently from the local Suzuki dealer, took 3 days to arrive which was pretty good. The screen stopped the buffeting and was nice at regular speeds however became unstable at 190kmh on a calm day, also was really unstable when coming up on tanker trucks to overtake, quite scary really.

I've since made a sports screen about 3" shorter than the std one from black 4mm acrylic, heated it to 170C in the oven and molded it against the std screen, drilled the holes and "Bob's your uncle" stable at speed, no more buffeting, great in the Queensland summer and looks neat too. I'll post a pic this weekend.

I'll probably revert to the Givi for long trips in the winter months.

Now I don't normally travel at 190 kmh, it was just one of those moments....

This is how the Madstad bracket was when I received it. It has a wing nut on the outside of the bracket and a knob on the inside. I got mine about 2 months ago. It is very easy to adjust. I can change my screen at the traffic lights in about 5 seconds.

And yes, no more black edging on the new Givi screens. I don't think I would have bought the Givi if it did have the black edging.

They really are pretty easy to cut down, specially now that the black trim is gone.

Did this configuration worked at all speeds mostly interested at freeway speeds of 80-90 mph ? I have the same Madstad mount and Givi screen but found no sweet spot yet ...:confused:

No I haven't quite found the sweet spot for higher speeds yet but I haven't done much freeway riding recently. So far I'd say I'd rate the new Givi at 9/10 for reducing buffeting. At around 100 kph (60mph) I do get a tiny amount of buffet but I'm OK with this and it is way better than the stocker at the same speed even with the Madstad. I find that crosswinds still cause most of the buffeting for me. If there is no wind I don't notice any problems.

Perhaps with a few more fine adjustments I might be able to get rid of it completely.

thanks LightingStrom - that was my experience as well. I can go al the way around 65 (mph)no problem but higer tha that wind noise and buffring starts .. anyhow it is still way better than the stock and will keep working on it. I was thinking waht would happen if I would raise it all the way up ... (besides looking throught it)..,Unfortunatelly very windy these days in Souther California so cross winds blow away any testing that would give signinficant results ...

The Givi windshield (windscreen, to you) and Madstad combination worked for me and completely eliminated buffeting. But I did have a problem with the knobs not tightening enough to keep the Givi from sliding backward. The folks at Madstad promptly sent me hardware to correct this at no charge. They stand behind their product.

My Madstad came with wingnuts only, and they just cannot be tightened tight enough by hand, so I carry two little pliers in my tankbag!

As others have mentioned, the Givi/Madstad combination works great for me.
