I just went to renew my annual subscription and the only availability through Paypal seems to be a "recurring" payment where my $20 subscription will automatically be deducted from my account every year.
No good.
I want to continue my membership but on a yearly basis only.
How do I do this?

Just make the payment then cancel the recurring part later I guess.
Seems a bit unwieldy KIWI. This is the first time this has happened. I'm keen to renew my subscription but I think the system should allow for payment on an annual basis as in the past. Is this the first time the "recurring" payment has been the only option to your knowledge?

The web site is owned by Verticalscope. The moderators are volunteers they do not make the rules and policies, don't shoot the messengers.

The renewal thing happened before Verticalscope took over afaik.
There have been numerous threads about it in the past.

It's free, why pay for it???
Nothing in life is free.
This site costs money to run and it's not a charity. If you want to bludge and be an intermittent user then by all means use the free option. If you find this site useful and become a regular member then one years subscription will cost you less than one tank of fuel for your Strom plus you will get additional benefits and you will be contributing to keeping this site strong and viable.

This site is now a BUSINESS not a community, and I will never pay a cent towards it. But while it is FREE, I will hang around at my leisure.

The internet is a big place and will go on with or without this site.

Maybe I should pay for internet porn as well......lol.

I put my money where there is value in return and it helps people I like. I find a lot of value here but don't have ties with the owners now. Lets just say I still contribute but not as much as I do at VSRI. Money is the smallest part of what I contribute to both sites anyway and I still feel like I get more than I give at both places. I very much want this site to continue and have no argument with Verticalscope's handling of the site.

People like you Greywolf are what makes the forum excellent. I am very appreciative of your input and the volunteer moderators . I have no problem with Verticalscope paying for the the site and providing us with this excellent forum. Bandwidth , support etc costs money.

Good point, no problems with moderators, they provide an excellent service! It’s just that the majority of the forums I belong to are privately owned and are add free. A good portion of us donate freely to them because we choose to do so, not just to get rid of any ads, hence the extortion comment. Additionally, having automatic subscription renewal without an e mail notification including an opt out option is an old marketing ploy. Most who choose to not renew will forget about the auto renewal and they are almost impossible to retrieve once processed. I know, it’s just 20$ …….Great forum, just mho.

Where do we go if we want to "adjust" the automatic renewal?

Ahh, found it. In PayPal under Profile/More Options/My preapproved payments. Anyway, I don't mind contributing to this site. There is a ton of great information on here.
