is there a recommended angled tire valve which i can screw onto my tire's stems so when i fill up with air, i can easily access the air hose's nozzle?

I want to see the discussion on this. Things I've read say it's a bad idea, additional stress. I've thought about carrying one with me and screw it on when needed then take it off to ride.:lurk5:

Maybe not the answer you are looking for. For the same reason I installed a angled metal stem. It never wanted to stay put and always wanted to turn, no matter how much I tightened it. And in the second season it started to leak to the point that I had to remove it to be able to go on my trip. I have not found a good solution other than using a pressure gauge with flexible hose connection. If the pressure is low I can attach the compressor nozzle to the gauge. That works fairly well.

If you install the proper sized rubber valve stems, and some recommend doing that with each tire change, there is very little chance of any failure. Short of getting into mud and ripping them loose. Metal ones with nuts to tighten them to seal, either straight or angled, have a history of being somewhat more prone to failure. There is a reason you don't see them as OEM equipment. The angled ones, while convenient, invite all sorts of problems. They are in a constant strain at high speeds from centrifugal force. Even washing the bike means you should be careful not to move them.

My solution is one of the gauges that have the fitting that clamps onto your valve. These Viair units let you clamp onto the valve, check pressure, add, and adjust with the bleed button. These type of valve fitting seal quickly and easily.

i might be leaning towards PineLaneRider's suggestion of carrying an angled tire valve and use it when needed.

for me, the rear wheel air valve on my 2009 wee with black cast wheels is always hard to access.

the front is a small amount easier.

realshelby's thought is a bit overkill for my more modest needs.

i do have a flexible hose air gauge with a bleed button release.

now if i could only get the air into the tire as easily as i can check it, well that would be great ;-)

i look forward to any other suggestions.

Semi tractors and trailers all run metal stems without problems.
I know a couple that had a near new Goldwing that the rubber stem broke and put both of them in the hospital.
Like Realshelby says, if you run them, change them out with each tire change. Also buy the shortest one possible. There are some that only stick above the rim about 1".

Check my post. I added a link to the kind of gauge you are looking for. Quality product, reasonably priced. Plus you can check bicycle tires as well.

I think it was bit over 35,000 miles ago that I had angled metal valve stems installed on my DL1000 so I could mount the Garmin Tire Pressure motoring senders.

I haven't had any issues.

What make/ model stems did you use?

The WEE rims where I tried them did not have machined surfaces on both sides and after a while no matter how much I kept tightening the stem it leaked to the point that the gaskets were totally squished and finally destroyed. So that stem had to come off because I was going to leave on my annual trip.

No idea what type, my tire installer just pulled some out of box and put them on.

When I had my 90 degree stems installed, I talked about it on the forum as a solution to the access problem and was told by one smart-a$$ that he had never had a problem checking his pressures. I'm so happy to see this thread! I've used my stems for at lease two tire-lifetimes and have not had any problem with them. They make it so easy to check pressure and add air if needed. I highly recommend them. Got them on eBay. They are aluminum and come in various colors.

I have about 12k miles on these metal T-stems (scroll down on page) on another bike with no issues. Makes using my Garmin TPMS mucho easy. I plan on installing a set of black ones on my '12 650 real soon with the new tires (along with Rick's fender raising blocks :var_14:). FOBO is not the only one to offer these but their price seems right in the ballpark. Just be aware of caliber clearance.
