Amazon Skid Plate - First impression

Yesterday I ordered a skid plate on the 2020 Dl1050 purchased from Amazon. At the time of posting/purchase this skid plate was $189+Tax (CAD). Arrived in a couple of day.

First impression is that is it well made and good quality paint job. You can see marks from the pressing machine around the areas where the bends were created. Not a big deal.

Its closest comparison is the Cosmo Accessories version. I compared them both and the Cosmo version is a tiny bit lighter. Their website states that it weights only 2.5 kg while the Amazon version comes in at 3.24 kg. Taking into account the exchange rate and shipping from Greece and possible duties, I figured it was not worth the haste for less than 1 kg in weight and possible few dollars in savings. I am not sure what the wait time would be.

Some basic instructions were included, written in 3 languages. (German, English and can't remember the other), plus some pictures of that final install.

As much as the product looks to be well made, the install was a little but of a PITA. Everything lined up correctly and all the screw holes were in synch of each other. The troubled part was getting the rubber cushioned clamps to close far enough that the supplied stainless steel screws would go through the plate and both holes of the strap. While leaving enough thread sticking out for a washer and the nylon lock nut to catch on. I am not looking forward to the next oil change as the plate will need to come off. Although I may purchase some of my own stainless steel screws to make the reinstall process a little easier.

Here are some pictures of the products.

Definitely at least two 1/2" holes at the lowest point on each side...
P.S.: "Remove skid plate from the bike before drilling !!! :) "

Caliper measures it at 2.9-3.0 mm

I was also surprised at the quality of the welds for an Amazon product from China.
That puts it in the same category as the Givi.

Ya, that's what I got.
Installed this one. Few tip and tricks.
1) drill those holes mentioned earlier.
2) start at bottom and keep bottom bolts loose.
3) attached everything lose (brackets are a PIA)
4) Now pull the complete plate forward, should not be a issue as things are loose. this will create enough gap between exhaust pipe and bracket.
5) Now tight all up and start at bottom.
Looks good and does the job. Pain is when you do Oil change, you have to remove to access Oil filter.

If it's like the hepco, only have to undo the two front crash bars, whole skid plate lays down. Need smallish drip tray to fit in there, or some aluminum to redirect into regular tray.

I found on FB marketplace from a seller who sells amazon returns. It was brand new uninstalled and costed me $60 CAD and an hour of pain and suffering as these small brackets are not easy to install unless you buy some longer bolts.
