Ive decided to pull the trigger next year on a 2012 base Wee, what I hope is most motorcycle dealers are like car dealers where they have a sticker price and a lower price where they sell the car. Ive also noticed you can sometimes get some extras for a new car, like extra keys, car manuals etc. Is that also true when buying a new motorcycle? Does shopping around help or is that price fixed in stone for all dealerships? From what Ive read here most are happy with the new price, and its true $8300 is a good deal especially from what the Europeans are paying, but after dealer handleing, tax, license plate, and some extras for the bike Im right up to ten grand or over, now thats starting to hurt! Dealer handleing alone is $400, anyone have any luck getting that off? Thanks for any advice that can save me some big bucks.

You gott'a check every dealership within a reasonable range, maybe including all the Denver area and Colorado Springs. I know of one dealership way outside Portland (The Dalles) that makes it worthwhile to travel to them; you might find one in your region. Support of a local dealer is important, so give them your business if that's your choice.

Even if they won't dicker on the price, be sure to negotiate hard on everything else except the sales tax and license fee. When negotiating, be sure they KNOW that you'll walk away if they don't deal with you...and mean it. Also negotiate a same-day discount on anything you want from the Parts Department--service manual, hand grips, or anything else you want. Note the parts prices from on line discounters first.

Three area Dealers. Two didn't want to "mess with taking a deposit at this time" and order a 2012 DL650 for me. Dealer number three wanted my business. No negotiation necessary for $7500 plus Tax only. No Document, Freight or Set Up Fees. Plus a Parts and Accessory Discount and an Owner and Service Manager who ride V-Stroms. They took my Deposit and Ordered my new Standard Model Fox Orange Metallic 2012 V-Strom. I'm looking forward to being one of the first in my area to take delivery from a local Dealer who makes fair pricing and customer service a priority.

I don't do business with my local dealer now the one and only for 150 miles. I will not pay for a doc fee, set-up fee, shipping fee....etc, etc, etc. I also make sure all of my bikes come with the factory service manual. I have never paid full retail. When the Cbr1100xx came out in 1997 they retailed for 11499.00 I made three phone calls and got it for 10499.00 + tax. YMMV.

I'm an Indiana resident serving in the military in Indiana. Best I can find around here is $8666OTD for a 2011. I need the info of the dealer you are getting your 12 from. I could buy it and ship it here using USHIP.
