Just finished installing a pair of Cree auxiliary lights from Adventure Tech, and it went pretty well. I used their kit which includes their light bar, a wiring harness and 2 lights...I chose 1 flood and 1 spot.

The Good:
> Easy installation. The wiring harness in the kit is very generous with the wire. It looks like a generic harness that would fit just about any large bike. Rather than cut and splice wires I coiled up and zip-tied the excess.
> These lights are BRIGHT! I haven't ridden at night yet, but they are so intense they make the stock headlights look dim and yellow. There is no doubt they increase the visibility of the bike. This morning I rode bast a couple of moto-LEOs and I was wondering if they were going to stop me, but they just waved and rode on.

The Not-so-Good:
> The light bar is also well made and fits perfectly, but the mounting holes for the light brackets are too small. They are drilled 1/4" while the light brackets use 5/16" bolts. This was not a problem for me as it is easy to drill out the holes in the aluminum stock, but until Rick modifies these holes you should be ready to do it yourself.

I also found Rick to be very easy to communicate with as well as eager to make me happy.

Does anybody have a pic of their auxiliary lights using Adventuretech's mounting bracket? Trying to figure out if the lights will sit under the stock lights or off to the sides.


I have ridden at night with these and they really do add a lot. One of them is a spot and the other a flood. Mostly, however, I like the way they add visibility during the daytime!

Thanks for the quick pic. Ia going to be ordering the whole kit this week. I kind of wanted the lights to sit under the stock lights, but out to the side doesn't look bad.

Which side did you put the spot and the flood beam on?

For whatever reason, I put the flood on the left and the spot on the right. Not really sure how much difference it makes. Note that these Cree lights are NOT like the flamethrowers that a lot of long distance riders use. They are bright, but they probably won't start any fires along the roadside. They really do make roadside signs pop, and I believe they make me a LOT more visible to oncoming cagers even in the daytime.

Does anyone know if either light would be better on a particular side for oncoming traffic visibility (left side) versus forward and right roadside illumination (right)?

Would a spot or a flood be better for oncoming traffic on the left side?

That's what I had in mind when I mounted mine, but I really don't think it makes that much difference.

CHECK THE LIGHT MOUNTS!! They are very prone to breaking due to design fault and will fail in time. I broke both in a couple of weeks of riding. I Emailed Rick and sent him pics- he offered to replace them but instead of an international post I made my own. I am not sure if he was going to send a new set of the same crappy design.

Those of you that have them, I've a couple of questions.
If you did it again, would you stay with a spot and flood combo or have them the same?
I'd be running them day and night and wouldn't want to angle either down too much so as to lose the night capability.
Of course I wouldn't want to blind anyone either.
Any other input would be appreciated.

I have the Adventure Tech kit with two floods, and I like them. The adjustment was probably the hardest part, because like you, I didn't was to blind other motorists, but still wanted to maximize visibility at night. I used the garage door as a canvas to mark the beams and get them at the same elevation for a starting point. After lots of small adjustments and test rides later, I ended up with the right light canted slightly more to the right and forward, and the left light more or less following the headlight.

Overall, a very nice kit. The only change I might make would be to go with a rocker style switch.

FYI,

As a rule, or I should say by design, all the holes for the lights are drilled to 8 mm. There should not be any drilling by the user.

I prefer two spots myself. Taking into account how fast you are moving, and how the spots complement the existing factory headlights, two spots make the most sense to me. They are so bright noone is going to miss them, but easily pointed at a spot down the road so as not to annoy oncoming drivers.

Hi Rick,
I have the Cree Aux Light kit (installed about 4 years ago). The metal bracket holding the left light (when looking at the front) to the mounting bar broke. Any chance you have any extra brackets to sell?
