Hello, I just bought a 14 650 and it came with one key. I have read several of the posts on finding additional keys that will work. One guy here posted that the key for GSX1300 below will work. Can anyone confirm?

The same key blank Suzuki part number 37146-11J00 is used on the following:

It's $31.40 from Suzuki for some damfool reason, so if it's just a key with no chip funny business, you can look for other sources and any decent locksmith can cut one for you.

This is the newest thread I could find anywhere regarding key blanks - hope it doesn't rustle too many jimmies.

To be clear: I'm only talking about ignition keys here. No luggage keys.

My 2007 DL1000 came with only one original key. I had 2 copies made at a locksmith, but they're fairly cheesy Ilco copies. I mean, they work, but they don't feel like quality, if that makes sense. They're just stamped, fairly soft metal, of a type I've had break easily before.

The key blank is in the "Wiring Harness" diagram for the 2007 DL1000, part number 24, "KEY BLANK," part # 37146-33E00. I found a genuine Suzuki one on eBay for around $18. I'll probably just go ahead and snag it.

I'm cheap so I bought the ebay blanks, think they came out of Hong Kong. They were a few bucks each I believe. I had a locksmith cut one from the original (another couple bucks). He had to work with it some but it works great in the ignition. For the tank, it works less well. I have to put it all the way in and pull it out slightly and it opens. No big deal. Now, the blanks take awhile to come so the risk is there for losing the original until the new ones come in and are cut. I think it's poor that so many used bikes only come with one key and no book. Think it shows lack of caring but that is for another day's discussion. :)

I just got a couple of blanks for my 2019 650 from ekeyblanks (Wholesale Key Supplier | Automotive Key Blanks | eKey Blanks). Shipping was very quick, delivered in just a few days. They were Ilco brand, had them cut at Ace Hardware and they worked just fine.
That's right, Ilco makes a blank for pretty much every model.

if you really want to go down the rabbit hole, I found a reference here:

for the 2007 DL1000, it's the Ilco SUZ12 / X179 key blank.

(Note that the .pdf above was published in 2012, so it says "2003+ model" but I think the new DL1000's (2014+) use a different key)

One of my existing copies is made from that Ilco blank. It operates the ignition no problem, but I'm not sure I've tried it on the tank. I need to, that matters!

There's nothing wrong with the Ilcos, but I like the fatter plastic head on the OEM key. Just feels better. Here's what I ended up ordering off eBay:

They're supposed to be the same as 37146-33E00, only about half the price (2 for ~$19) so I figured why not give it a try. If my locksmith has trouble with them I guess I'll spring for the actual OEM key blank.

FYI, the ilco blank I had cut for my '13 Wee needed the lower part of the head ground down so that the key would insert fully. Works fine after that.

It turns out that the copy I had made 4 years ago was actually done with a "SUZ18/X241" blank.

Works perfectly, including gas tank lock.

Received my new Suzuki-type blanks today, from eBay vendor georgiadude333. They look perfect, I don't think my locksmith will have any trouble cutting them.

I suggest riding to the locksmith with all your locks installed, ignition, tank panniers, seat, etc. Get your keys cut and tested and re-cut if necessary, on the spot. Don't leave until they work. I got keys made the first time and drove home only to find that they didn't work. Some locks are so finicky, especially when new. By the time I got back to the locksmith I had lost the first set and had to start and pay all over.

I only got one set of keys when I bought my used '14 DL650. A mechanic I used recommended a local locksmith he uses. He made keys for the ignition and the panniers from generic blanks. They were not expensive, they are every bit as sturdy as factory keys and they work perfectly. I don't care what they look like.

Got both blanks cut yesterday. Both work 100% on the first try.

I love that shop. They'll cut any blank you bring them, and it was all of $5 to have the two blanks cut.

I took both of my previous keys (one that came with the bike plus copy on an Ilco blank) with me. The locksmith used the old copy to cut the new ones. I suppose because it was nice and sharp, where the original one has worn down some.

Definitely recommend that 2 pack of blanks off eBay. Twice the keys for the price of one from the OEM vendors.
