Holy smokes Afbarrio, that is a lot of video footage. How did you manage to back all that up during your trip? Did you bring a 6TB harddrive or something?

Looks like a pretty cool trip, did you enjoy it? Post up some thoughts and adventures if you feel up to it. Watching riding videos alone gets tiring after a bit, but thanks for posting it all up.

A great way to spend the Winter downtime, I can go for a ride anytime I want just by watching these.

Thanks bugmagnet! The camera had a 64GB card and it would fill up say every week or so. I would transfer the files to a 10 inch laptop I carried as my office anyway. Now editing is the issue. It took me months to edit down to 15 minutes maximum, and weeks to upload. And the camera batteries. They last only two hours so I kept swapping them at stops. And recharging them at night. Half times I camped so I brought a backup battery. I call it a "superbattery" which I charged while driving or at motels.

The main reason to videotape was selfish. There is so much visual information when you ride that I forget. It's like a blurr. So these videos are like a diary. But I thought I'd publish so perhaps riders could get inspired and go and ride long distance.

This is a beautiful country seen from a bike. And it is large. Very large. Seasoned riders in this forum would nod "oh yeah". This was my second trip.

Yes I enjoyed it tremendously. Every minute of of every day and night. Of course after a while of campground's "rustic" loos and motel rooms you miss home.

The DL1000 run flawlessly. Perfect at altitude and thru pouring rain. Not a hiccup. I even serviced it and put new tires in WA state.

That is one hell of a trip! I'd love to have the time to do half of that but for now my trips are limited. Not sure if you mentioned it or not but what type of seat are you using?

My ass didn't hurt at all. I was doing 5 to 8 hour days. Stopping every 1 or 2 hours. I used the Suzuki low seat that has less padding (I'm 5' 7"). What did hurt the first few days was my right lower neck / trapeze muscle, whatever the name is. I had this problem before. Maybe I need a cruise control.

I will share that information. Someone else asked so I will do it. About recommendations, I read two books tht I will share. One on tour routes and one on camping and riding.

I did not publish all the video I recorded. Just a selection of 5 to 15 minutes per day. Included photos and map of that day's itinerary.

I used the Suzuki OEM seat. The Low seat because my inseam is 30 inches. I could have used the standard seat which has more padding but out of caution I chose the low one. Whenever I felt butt pain I would stand up, even at speed. The DL1000 is very stable and the foot pegs are right underneath the rider, almost.

Butt pain was not an issue at all. For me the Suzi seat was fine, never thought about it like in "I wish I'd got another seat"

Wow, 56 days! I can hardly squeeze in a three day weekend trip.
Yeah I am fortunate. I take my office with me and business is slow so I am not too busy. I was checking in every day at around 2 pm. But some campgrounds did not have even cell phone coverage. Private ones do but many National Parks don't

Did you pre-plan all the routes or go by your whim? If you did preplan, would you share your GPS file(s) that you used? I am specifically interested in the section from Washington back to Virginia but the rest would also be of interest.

Thanks!

I planned. I connected routes described in the book "Motorcycle Journeys through North America" by Dale Coyner. I recommend it!. I minimized freeways and maximized National Parks, etc. I used Google maps and I think the stages are public. Search user afbarrio. You can take it from there and export the waypoints from Google maps. You can also see each stage map at the beginning of each video. The waypoints are listed on the left in most maps in the video. Keep in mind that I almost immediately deviated from the plan in terms of time due to rain, waiting for parts, service call, 4th of July, etc. But I kept coming back to the planned route. The current Google maps reflect the actual tour, not the original plan. Let me know if you have questions.

From Washington I stayed North till Glacier NP, then turned S to get to Yellowstone, then E to Devil's Tower and Black Hills NF, then ENE aiming to Duluth MN, to ride the N of Lake Superior. I was told that the great lakes on the USA side is densely populated, too much traffic. Then I entered thru Niagara Falls and thru NY and beautiful PA farmlands to Front Royal.

Thank you for posting all these videos. Looking forward to vicariously enjoying, for the time being, the kind of trip I hope to make someday.
Talk about an iron butt! Can't imagine making it all that way on the stock Wee seat.

Thanks Papa5! It is a DL1000 seat, a V2. But I owned a Wee DL650 and they are similar in comfort. I didn't have a problem at all. I stop a lot, every hour or two max. I like the seat. I wouldn't change it.

Moreover, I wasn't trying to beat endurance records. My longest day was 360 miles. About 5 to 8 hours a day. Tried to check in at 2 to 3 pm when campgrounds and motels still have room.
